The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

September 4, 2008 by Greg Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

It’s weird I’m feeling kind of hostile this week. Arbouretum / Pontiak will likely be the musical highpoint of the week, if not the month.

Friday Sept 5th

Arbouretum, Psychic Paramount, Pontiak, Sri Aurobindo @ Talking Head

One of my favorite releases of all year is the split LP Kale from Bmore rockers Arbouretum and Pontiak, featuring a combo of originals and John Cale (Velvet Underground anyone?) covers. The last time this combo played the TH, the place could barely contain the rock.

Saturday Sept 6th

Legwarmers @ Rams Head Live

*puke* I’m OK, seriously. The fact that this 80’s homage sells out venues doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

Burning Spear @ Recher Theatre

Reggae mainstay brings the rastafari power to Baltimore suburbanites, embraces low-potency college-kids’ MJ and is believed by most of audience to be related to Bob Marley. Film at 11.

Sunday Sept 7th

Avenged Sevenfold @ Rams Head Live

Fuck some shit up with your bro. And maybe punch a kid in the face in the pit and call him a fag. Sponsored by Hot Topic.

Monday Sept 8th

Daedalus @ the Hexagon

Mad musical scientist inventor Daedalus brings his gig to grace Bmore.

Tokyo Police Club, The Whigs and The Coast @ Ottobar

Hype machine around Tokyo Police Club has definitely died down. After seeing their Myspace free show at the Talking Head, this could be a very good thing.

ROCK OBAMA fundraiser with OLD 97′S, CALEB STINE & THE BRAKEMEN : DESERT BOYS @ Sonar

Obama supporter or not, the Old 97’s will be doing their  whole country-tinged pop-rock thing and Caleb Stine will be throwing down his spectacular country folk thing at Sonar.  The whole Obama fundraiser aspect may or may not be bonus.

Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s @ Recher Theatre

Firstly, I’ve loved their name since the beginning of time.  Secondly, they are the only nuclear proliferation I will endorse.  Thirdly, precious music makes me happy.

Tuesday Sept 9th

Aimee Mann @ Recher Theatre

Was anyone else completely entranced by Aimee Mann when she made her guest spot on Buffy the Vampire Slayer? I was.  Man that voice…I haven’t looked back.  Also, dig up some of her punk and new wave stuff back before she went solo.  Not too shabby either.  I wouldn’t count on any of those tracks being on the set list though.

HAHA! It’s been a crappy day at work, but that just put a smile on my face.
