Whartscape 2008: Baltimore Explodes Your Summer.

Whartscape 2008: Baltimore Explodes Your Summer.

This just in from the City that Reads.

For the third annual Wham City-curated summer festival Whartscape, I believe there is discussion of changing that motto to the City that Whams. Or instead of a motto, just splattering a huge glob of bright neon and glow-in-the-dark paint onto a piece of paper and calling it a day.

I have taken the liberty of emphasizing artists that I know from first-hand experience, may bring a performance requiring a change of undies. There may be others in there as well, but I have no personal experiences with anyone not highlighted, so no slight intended.

Direct from Myspace (the first useful thing I’ve gotten on there in quite a long time):

yes! wham city presents to you the third whartscape. it is upon us. this year the beast has grown to 4 days and will take place at locations throughout Baltimore.

ecstatic sunshine is good stuff. they have been through a rather radical overhaul. i haven’t gotten their new album in yet, so i can’t comment on their sound now, but it’s supposed to be a full band.

video hippos is a good time. hopefully they’ll have the projectors set up like last year. it really added to the whole experience.

the rest i’ve heard but haven’t seen so i can’t really comment on how that will turn out.

i’m really looking forward to seeing the roster of out of town guests.

if they have it at floristree again, i suggest you bring something from which you can drink water .

I forgot to emphasize Video Hippos.

Double Dagger have always kicked ass whenever I’ve seen them, as well as the Death Set and Dan Deacon. WZT Hearts also. They are my top acts so far.

Gregg Gillis is aka Girl Talk, FWIW. If that rings anyone’s bells or whets anyone’s appetite. Unsure what’s different about this act.

Matmos should be a mature contrast to, and perhaps a needed break from the Wham City types. Martin rocks the three piece suit instead of kids clothes for adults. As much of a cardio workout as you get from a Death Set, Double Dagger, and other shows, Matmos provides the intellectual calisthenics.
