What’s going on just a hop scotch and a highway away this week:
Wednesday (aka tonight) you can catch MSTRKRFT and Scottie B at Bedrock in their only area tour stop. Or you know, there’s always HANSON @ RAMS HEAD LIEK OMG.
Thursday is a book release party for Radio Silence, upstairs at the Ottobar.
On Friday, Blaqstarr headlines some sort of Hopkins-frat sponsored shindig at the Ottobar while Detroit techno gets its due with the monthly, electronic-loving More Or Less party at the Hexagon with Drew Pompa. Fucked Up and Vivian Girls (again) hit Sonar’s west-wing (club stage and Talking Head)
Saturday, the new, less sexy Shiny Toy Guns try to get Sonar’s club stage moving. Wobbly with MC Schmidt of Matmos hit the Red Room. After this show, you should be moving over to Floristree for the Afrobeat Society’s show. Or head over to the Wind-Up for Microkingdom!!
Monday we see Israel’s finest mayhem artists, Monotonix hitting the Ottobar with Vincent Black Shadow and the Wham City Round-Robin alumni in Double Dagger.
Tuesday I will be fawning over the ‘billies in Horrorpops at the Ottobar. The alternative, the fuzzy-headed and swirling pop of the Octopus Project over at Sonar, is not bad either though. Or if you just want to get freaked out and freak out yourself, head to the Hexagon for We Are the Seahorses.
less sexy Shiny Toy Guns?
try to get Sonar’s club stage moving?
they did just fine the last time they were there
probably why they got invited back
Sonar’s not interested in losing money, right?
and even though Carah isn’t with the band anymore
Sisley Treasure heads up the new album
don’t know why you’d post this gig and then diss the band in the same breath, they co-headlined a successful tour with The Sounds, have a long healthy track record of touring (something they couldn’t manage to do if they sucked so hard) and they’re great musicians, friends, who really deliver during a live show (i’d know, i’ve seen them 6 or so times, lost count)
so what’s your beef exactly?
October 15, 2008 at 4:11 pmthis is true. they did get sonar steaming last time. but things have changed.
I was in love with Carah’s voice and her presence on stage. also, I adored their first release, flaws and all. “Ricochet” pisses me off and I dislike Sisely’s voice. Which led right up to me writing that snarky, dismissive gig snippet. Also, some of the stuff I’ve read about Carah’s departure seemed less than cordial, almost as if she was blind-sided by the decision to go on without her.
The diss wasn’t necessarily just at the band, as I was also dissing people’s pre-conceived notions and the resistance of some fans, like myself, to the change in singers that will make things more difficult for them than usual.
Anywho, new event just in:
Wye Oak @ the Current Gallery on Saturday!
glad to see you’re a true blue fan
and i appreciate the clarification
i feel the same about Ricochet
but love the band too much not to give her a try
i know the manager well and she said things were amicable regarding Carah but rumors will be rumors
i’ll be at the show, will you?
if not, group hug for you now

Michael will LOVE this post.
