The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

June 11, 2008 by Greg Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

So between my prep for Bonnaroo, various shows in Bmore and the These New Puritans interview/review, I let the Re-Up slip a bit.  But I promise when I get back next week, I’ll be as regular as prune-ingesting elderly folk with your Bmore menu.  Things I’m pissed about missing are a relative rarity WZT Hearts set, the Red Vines and Big Art Show…also, a little goings-on called Honfest. If you aren’t allergic to beehives.

Thursday June 12

The Red Vines @ the Talking Head

Delicious and timeless folk pop from Bmore’s Red Vines?  Sign me up.

Friday June 13

Bloody Panda, WZT Hearts, OAK @ the Talking Head

Baltimore’s noise-makers WZT Hearts have been playing far less often than I would like.  But it just makes the shows they do play that much better.  And a headliner named Bloody Panda and death metal from Bmore’s OAK?  Come on, you know this can only be good.

Big Art Show feat. Thrushes, Sonadors and tons more… @ Load of Fun Studios

First of two days-and-nights of music and art, featuring Bmore wall-of-sound builders Thrushes and soaring psych pop from Sonadors.

Saturday June 14

Big Art Show feat. Small Sur and tons more… @ Load of Fun Studios

The festival of artistic madness continues on North Avenue. The highlight of the evening’s musical activities that I am SO pissed to be missing: the remote wilderness-evoking traditional folk by Bmore-based Bob Keal’s project Small Sur. His debut album, dropping at the end of the summer, has me positively drooling in aural nirvana.

Sunday June 15

OAK @ the Ottobar

Bmore purveyors of darkness and doom OAK return for a second show this week, this time a free midnight set at the Ottobar.  Get your sacrilege on.

Sat and Sun June 14-15

Hon Fest 2008 in Hampden around the Avenue

Performers include the All Mighty Senators and Glenmont Popes as well as all the insanely great people-watching as everyone embraces their inner beehive-wearing, kitschy Bawlmer lover.
