There are some definite benefits to living in New York over the summer. While DC gets Fort Reno (which I wish I could take off work bi-weekly to come home for), NYC gets other, slightly larger scale outdoor free festivals like River to River. Ergo, on the anniversary of this here country’s fine fine independence, it seemed only natural that veteran New Yorkers Sonic Youth and The Feelies would play a free show in Battery Park. The show was every bit as kickass as I expected it to be, with an hour long opening performance by The Feelies followed by an hour and a half of fuzzy Youth favorites.
And it only rained a little bit.
And there were little children running around in little Sonic Youth tees.
And Thurston crawled on top of all of the photographers.
And I heard Chloë Sevigny was there. But didn’t see her, or we would have eloped.
And Kim forgot the lyrics half way through “Drunken Butterfly.”
And it was one of The Feelies’ first few shows back together in 16 years, and you couldn’t even tell.
And Sonic Youth played

July 7, 2008 at 12:36 pmYep, great show…but the Two Feelies Maxwell’s shows earlier in the week were AMAZING!!!
July 7, 2008 at 2:19 pmwhat was mark ibold (pavement) doing there? i heard that he has been touring with sonic youth on some dates but if kim g was there—why was he playing? ugh. would’ve loved to be at that show!
July 8, 2008 at 4:56 pmBy having Mark Ibold on bass, Kim can play guitar OR dance around and be cool.

Haha, you were at this show too? Man it was amazing seeing the Feelies. I was beyond happy to hear that they’d reunited.
