Folks, it's that time of year again. It's mid-July. It's getting humid (peculiar year, though, it's usually humid in May...). And lurking around the corner, tomorrow, is...
SIREN FESTIVAL 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last year at this time I was totally amped for SirenFest2008 and its amazing lineup. (check out the coverage here) This year, however, I can't seem to bring myself to peak excitement. Sure, headliners Built to Spill, Spank Rock and The Raveonettes will be great; sure, I'm stoked to see A Place to Bury Strangers (finally!) and...well. Let's face it. I haven't heard of half of these bands.
Blame it on being too busy to keep up with new music in the past year, or blame it on too much George Harrison...but this year, I've frankly not a clue who I will be hopping around to see and shoot.
So here is your mission, BYT readers, should you choose to accept it:
Tell me who I should see on Saturday.
Tell me who to wait an hour in the photo pit for, and tell me who to avoid.
I'll be around all day with a camera, and I'll bring you photos next week if you can help me figure out what to do with myself!
Here is the lineup:
BUILT TO SPILL, SPANK ROCK, THE RAVEONETTES, FRIGHTENED RABBIT, GRAND DUCHY, MONOTONIX, A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS,
THEE OH SEES, FUTURE OF THE LEFT, JAPANDROIDS, MICACHU & THE SHAPES, TINY MASTERS OF TODAY, BEAR HANDS, THE BLUE VAN, JUSTINE D. and DeadHeat DJs
Go fourth and comment.

God loves a cheerful giver.
ugh. most boring siren fest ever. granted, one can't complain too much seeing how it is free and all. but, i live in new york. i love music. i love coney island. and i won't be going...
(sorry that this is the least helpful post ever!)
Mee. Ka. Choo.
That is all.
i will be there to see micachu and the shapes and aptbs.
I've seen Built To Spill a couple times, amazing live. Raveonettes are boring live. Grand Duchy = Frank Black = Good. Monotonix supposedly is amazing live. The Japandroids record is great. I seem to remember Bear Hands being good live. Haven't seen Frightened Rabbit but their records are good.
Seems like a pretty decent line-up to me. Problem with Siren Fest is it's too hot and too crowded and poorly staffed and ends up sucking the life out of you.
Who wrote this article? Alyssa?
yeah, sorry. i forgot to change the byline
built to spill, frightened rabbit and bear hands would make this worth it for me. i also like the raveonettes, but i agree with cale they aren't eh greatest live.
if you haven't seen frightened rabbit live, you need to. words cannot express my love for them. i'm so bummed that they aren't making it our way this time around.
This is really lazy writing, folks. You admit you haven't heard of half the bands, and you want your readers to do the work for you? The only thing I learned from this is that the author is "stoked" and "too busy." I'm ticked that I added unnecessary wear and tear on my eyeballs to read this.
I'm sorry you misunderstood the intention of this post, which was to be interactive. I wanted to hear readers' experiences and suggestions with this list of bands, see if anyone was attending the festival, and encourage people to leave comments and participate. Reading the Pitchfork reviews of all of these bands would be boring.
MONOTONIXXXXXXXXX
haha if you are in the photo pit you might die though
dont let your camera get pissed on
yayaaaa have fun alyssa
the blue van and the miachu killed it
