Lately the Annex has been a win-win place for me to dip into on my way home for off-cuff and extreme musical and visual entertainment. I expect to careen around freely with my camera, and so far I haven't once ordered a drink from the bar because my mind hasn't escaped me long enough to even fathom it. That's probably a big deal.
This time, last Wednesday, I wasn't alone in discovering some delicious morsel of a hidden secret that is Your Nature, a young band with talent brimming from their fresh skin, lively hands, mouths, minds. As I squeezed into a mosh pit of non-moshers that were layered against the pine tree breeze of their sound, I realized that I wanted to marry the lighting guy. The projected colors are always such a godsend compliment to the sound, and of course, conveniently and secondarily, help me make good pictures. So was this awesome September night, one of the first fall-feeling too, though summer abound until some 20th day of the month, and loads of white shoes ever so presently tapping themselves in tandem with the dark green and leafy beats.
Selfishly wrapping yourself into the musical stylings that swirl you in, listen to their myspace or go see them live. I'm done. A polished tribal jungle beat and move your body.

God loves a cheerful giver.
The Annex closed on sat hopefully for ever. Good riddance. They cancelled our show for no reason on Friday after our 6 and 1/2 hour jaunt through traffic from DC. Never got an explanation, as they asked us to move our equipment out of the way for a DJ and lesbian band that never was on the schedule. I'm not one to usually hate on places, but F that place....F that place in the butt.
The Annex used to be a pretty decent place. But a gradual uptick in Bridge/Tunnel visitors changed the vibe. Also the DJ nites are nowhere nearly as fun as they used to be.
As a venue, the place was alright. Stage was a bit too high and cramped. When my band played there, the DJ turned off all the lights and put on a smoke machine while we were trying to clear the stage. Pretty inconsiderate, if you ask me.
well now I wont have any place to pregame before the real party at Rosario's pizza parlor on the corner
That second photo makes me miss Lexie sooo much.
Where is Club NME now?
whoa
in the butt? really?
this band is rad. there's an interview with their guitarist in Hook and Line Magazine.
