I went to The Annex in the LES last Thursday night and accidentally stepped into [like gum without the sticky annoyance] a stinging performance by a band called The Beach Project. I truly felt swept off my peds, and for the first time in a long time. The total duration of their set was like taking a magic carpet ride: myself and the crowd all Alladins, and the stunning, breathtaking, seemingly levitating singer, Jasmine. Every moment red letter.
Considering her Peter-Pan-gone-pixie-like garb [which included a side beret encrusted with some sparkly ornate leaf-like appendage, a pair of high-waisted tweed shorts that could have doubled as a glove because they fit like...a glove, and a white classic button down that you'd have perceived as so until the reveal of an open back that was cut out as, and where the skin counter-formed to be, a heart], I expected and eagerly anticipated a true event. I think every man and woman straight or bi the stage had a hot meltdown, even on the unseasonably cool New York and mid-summer of a night.
Too, fake lashes spawned out extra long and cast shadows that underlined her eyes--eyes that dually offered moving and locking looks--looks that tried hard to keep up with the passionate and earnest sound that was her voice.
Clearly in the throat, it was a heart throb of a performance. And while her presence on the stage was as fine as a jewelry box of gold alone, the total rendering of musical stylings that included a smooth riding violin was conclusively no less valuable than a diamond in the m-effing rough.

These photos are downright magnificent; a seemingly rare commodity for BYT as of late.
I can project myself into this night, music--that I've never heard of, how have I never heard of this-- and mood through these photos. I must find this mysterious Beach Party band, at once.
HEY!
They were actually listed as the wrong name at the venue: they are called "The Beach Project".
Hear them at:
