I cannot stress enough the importance of imperfection and improvisation in a good live show. That said, Ambulance LTD played a pretty solid hour of songs Thursday at the Bowery – they sounded, in fact, nearly exactly like they do on recording. Why would people pay money to see a band live who sound identical on CD when they could just listen to the record at home, you ask? Beats me. But it was a pretty night, and it was good to get out of the apartment. Or, the singer’s sorta cute. A little too pretty for my personal tastes, but you know…I see it. The guys were charming enough to get wild packs of animalistic ladies screeching and singing along, albeit horribly off-tune. Unfortunately, they stood relatively stagnant in stature throughout their set, which is always challenging to dance along with. But Ambulance LTD are, thankfully, talented songwriters who posses tunes just as witty and bouncy live as they do on record. I was impressed most by Soft, one of the openers who I had listened to before but not seen live yet until that evening; Soft have a great presence and melody amidst their act. All in all, nothing mind-blowing, but still a pretty decent show
