Preface: Yesterday, BYT attended, white patent leather shoes and all, a party for legendary Nightlife columnist’s Michael Mustos new book at Nage. (the book itself was absent BUT WE DID get to hear a Musto reading from Susanne Sommers’ book of poetry-so we were happy, as we are easily pleased.)
The drinks were pink and free, the crowd was well coiffed ,and ready to rumble and involved everyone from drag queens to poodles to drag queen poodles to DC United defensemen and BYT and Wonkette photo and writing staff abusing the open bar. We asked our dear Bill Smith, Musto fan extraordinaire, architect, teacher and well dressed man about town to sum the evenining for us:
While reading the Village Voice column, La Dolce Musto this week, the side note at the bottom of the infamous gossip and see and be seen column by the ubiquitous Michael Musto read : “Web extra: Do you live in D.C.? Want to get invited to my upcoming book event there and maybe even get a free cocktail? Email me (musto@villagevoice.com) and we’ll discuss, kids.”
And yes it was as fabulous as one could imagine: Michael Musto in DC to promote his recent book “La Dolce Musto”, a compilation from the last twenty years of his most scandalous, hilarious, riotous and hysterically biting columns in one publication. Of course you have seen him everywhere, from E! True Hollywood Story to all of the pertinent VH-1 dish sessions on culture and all things fabulous. His appearance in the D.C. social set, dressed head to toe in a black and white pin striped suit clutching his usual Diet Coke and buffet close by, was accommodated by Nage Restaurant on Scott Circle in the District. Inside sources overheard that the guest of honor and his Manhattan denizens accompanying him were to make appearances at Annie’s Paramount Steak House and Club Omega, two ancient and overtly campy bastions to those Washingtonian scene queens of a certain age.
( we did try to get the man to go with us to The Cat, but he said: Nothing too high culture for me! Take me to a leather Bar! (we swear))
The DC invasion of the man who quotes, dishes and immortalizes all of the most fabulous disasters in film, stage, barstool and/or street corner, was definitely one for any wannabe *IT* kid to remember.
[...] The reviews. Wonkette, our competitor, raved about the bash, but, oddly, spent more time talking about Big Head Rob than Michael in their post today. For the record, everyone at Big Head DC thinks that intern Nick Mueller has classic good looks; Brightest Young Things offers a super round-up; DCist does what it does; Freelance Genius had fun.
