When Yves Saint Laurent passed on this Sunday, the world lost one of its last true style pioneers.
And while the internets are filled with very wonderful and eloquent “in memoriams” (I highly recommend the times online one and well as the suzy menkes piece) I feel that for a career that has left such a lasting visual imprint on our collective style, a visual retrospective of some of his greatest hits is all the more appropriate.
So behold, the tuxedo, the chainmail dress, the safari look, the pantsuit revolution, the icy-Belle-du-jour and beyond. Half the things you own today are inspired by what Yves did over the last 4 or so decades.
And today, if not in good luck to own some vintage Laurent, drop a drop of Opium (if you’re feeling powerful), In Love Again (if you’re feeling nostalgic) or Baby Doll (if you’re feeling plaful) wherever you want to be kissed and live the fantasy for a while.

seriously what a great loss
what sense, what class
i know YSL’s distant cousin/relative
