What to Wear To Inauguration?

What to Wear To Inauguration?

January 19, 2009 by Lex

Naturally, I am in love with any piece of double-serrated-edged tape that fixes together the generally torn lives of politics and fashion, and this low-and-beholder of a sketch gallery is for seer the cream of the yet-to-be harvested crop.

I think I looked at these gown-beauts several too many one hundred times–constantly day dreaming up some off-the-wall sales pitch for each designer’s sketch, and envisioned myself bargaining with M [Michelle O!] on the telephone [still using my hands wildly] on why to choose each yet-to-be coutured inaugural gown [clearly I changed my voice per designer representative].

In no particular order I may have said… (click here for full gallery)

“You’ve set everyone up to expect you in something low-pro after you dropped that J. Crew bomb–put a spin on that ish and show up in Badgley Mischka. And forget about the Olsens’ short-lived campaign ads, everyone else did.”

“Focus M, let’s think Carolina Hererra, and not a designer whose gone international with Target, k?”

“Betsy Johnson’s patriotic gradient will prove a funky but smooth transition into the White House. And please face it, her sketch was bursting with best.”

“No one will ever have done a Von Furstenberg wrap dress as grand as you. A historical moment will be had in itself.”

“If you show up in Marc, opposite and better than paparazzi, Juergen Teller will be dashing through the scent of the Rose Garden hanging out for you with his infamously modest point-n-shoot.”

“You’d look like Super Mom in that Christian Lacroix cape. Can i just say–let me just say it–nothing says it better than you are what you wear.”

“Go with Rodarte and all your nervousness for the big day can reside in not knowing what your dress is actually going to look like by way of such a minimally realized sketch! Yea!”

“The easy transposition of a label name like Rachel Roy with Rachel Ray is too much fun not to eat right up.”

“Um, ok,” maybe said Michelle at any point in conversation during my very real-like telephone day dreams.

We hang up, after verbal sell.

John Foster Says:

I don’t know anything about fashion – but I do know a great deal about sketching and Christian Lacroix is putting the rest of these folks to shame.
