Weekend Shopping Guide

Weekend Shopping Guide

November 14, 2008 by Meg Z

I have good news and bad news.  Let’s just go ahead and get the bad out of the way.  Last month retail sales were at their lowest since 1969.  But the good news is that there are a bunch of things happening this weekend that you can do to help support local boutiques and stores.  Plus with this gloomy weather, a little shopping pick-me-up wouldn’t hurt, now would it?

  • Tonight Rue 14, which set up shop in the old Pop location on 14th Street, is throwing its official opening party from 5 to 8pm.  Enjoy music from a live DJ, drinks, snacks, and giveaways while you shop their latest arrivals.
  • Lululemon Athletica is opening in Georgetown. They are celebrating with a free Budokon yoga class at 11am on Saturday, plus free chair massage and tea. On Sunday at 11am there will be a free aromatherapy yoga class and meditation followed by a light brunch.
  • Carbon in Woodley Park is having a boot sale.   Go say hi to Kevin and score 20 percent off of Miz Mooz, Gidigio and their in-house label (which rocks).
  • RCKNDY on U Street is having an Alessi sale all weekend with 20 percent off of in stock and special order items.  If you are in need of some holiday gifts or home items, this is the place to be.
  • Friday and Saturday Wink boutique is hosting a trunkshow for Beirn Handbags. The bags are made entirely from authentic watersnake and are available in 25 colors… oooh la la.
  • And if you are planning ahead for next week…
  • Celebrate Bond chic at The Park sponsored by DC’s Style Savants on Wed., Nov. 19. Complimentary hors d’oeuvres from 7-9pm and prizes for Bond-inspired attire.  A portion of the proceeds go to Fashion Fights Poverty.  RSVP to laura@park14.com
  • Plus one more event to keep on your radar…
Monday, December 1 at 7 pm
Fashion designer and Project Runway fan favorite and finalist Daniel Vosovic takes to the Corcoran stage to share behind-the-scenes information on today’s high-powered world of fashion. Following the talk, he will sign copies of his new book, Fashion Inside Out: Daniel V’s Guide to How Style Happens from Inspiration to Runway and Beyond.
