WE LOVE LOVE
February 12, 2009 by Morgan
The idea for “We Love Love” came about for Valentine’s Day, yes, but we so quickly came up with a list of friends, family – and in some cases – OURSELVES, in all varieties of HEARTWARMING RELATIONSHIPS, that we wondered why we waited until now to do this project. Having teamed up with photographer Alfonso Rosales (alfonso.rosales@gmail.com), what follows is the result of a long day of inviting ourselves into people’s homes, asking to stand on their beds, and documenting their love-love, band-love, dog-love, and dollar dollar bills for the world to see. We dare you not to get that warm, fuzzy feeling at LEAST once:
Cassidy (DJ; her new Garutachi DJs project [with partner-in-crime DJ Fabiana] premieres February 28th at Nouveau Riche) + Laura (singer)
Cassidy on Laura: Laura is the total package…witty, smart, talented, compassionate and pretty easy on the eyes. Laura on Cassidy: Cassidy is the most generous person I know. And then there’s the beauty, brains, and talent. She is pretty amazing.
Cassidy, on their Valentine’s Day plans: We’re heading up to NYC for Fashion Week and will celebrate Valentine’s Day up there. It’s Laura’s first time so I’m excited to show her the ropes…
Laura, on love: If love is the drug then I want to OD. Cassidy: I’d do it all for the glory of love…

Trae (aka John Powers; drummer for New Rock Church of Fire [catch them Friday night with Imperial China, The Sentiment, and A Born Idler at Rock and Roll Hotel]; bartender) + Carolyn (graphic designer)
Trae, on Carolyn: WE HAVE A GIVE-AND-TAKE RELATIONSHIP. I GIVE CAROLYN BEERS AND SHE TAKES BEER BONGS. WE SPEND A LOT OF TIME WITH OUR FRIENDS, BUT WE SPEND THE MAJORITY OF OUR TIME PARTYING ON OUR COUCH OR AT “BED-BAR” (OUR BED + ALCOHOL). WE REALLY ENJOY EACH OTHER’S COMPANY, NO MATTER WHAT WE’RE DOING.
Carolyn, on their relationship: We have fun and laugh and eat food and drink drinks. We enjoy each other’s company in any situation. Trae used to make me draw silly pictures at the bar while waiting for him to get out of work. He’d supply the idea and I’d make a sketch. The images never involved animals in sexually explicit situations.
Trae, on love: I WILL TELL YOU WHAT TRUE LOVE IS ALL ABOUT. AFTER A NIGHT AT AN OPEN-BAR, CAROLYN HAD TO CARRY MY DRUNK ASS HOME. UPON ARRIVAL AT THE APARTMENT, I FELL OVER AND FELL ASLEEP (PASSED OUT) ON THE FLOOR. INSTEAD OF CURSING ME AND GOING TO SLEEP IN A COMFORTABLE BED, CAROLYN GRABBED ALL THE BLANKETS AND PILLOWS AND SLEPT ON THE HARDWOOD FLOOR IN THE FRONT HALL WITH ME. THAT’S LOVE.
Carolyn, on Valentine’s plans: We will eat and drink, the location is unknown at the moment. Might end up at Bed-Bar.

Luke + John + Jacob + Paul = U.S. Royalty
On their relationship: Our relationship is one initially bred out of necessity. Now that it has had time to marinate, it has blossomed into a young doe, wide-eyed with anticipation. To predict where our love will be a year from now is foolish.
On their Valentine’s Day plans: We plan on waking up with the sunrise, splitting some firewood for the coming coldfront, drinking mimosas (w/grapefruit juice), kissing our loved ones, and playing an epic show with Stereo Faith
at his Feedback party at DC9.
It’s just another day in the life of U.S. Royalty.
On love: Love is here to stay, don’t you shy away. / When all your friends forego amends / remind them love is on the way.

Robin (AKA DJ CosMoLog/music production [radio programmer, 89.3FM]; nutrition grad student) + Mirjam (student)
Robin, on their relationship: Our relationship is obviously based on Love, but also caring for each other (and family), practicing patience, and understanding. We love hangin’ out in random places and creating our own world together.
Mirjam, on Robin: Robin is the most beautiful spirit that I know. He balances me and helps bring me back to my true self.
Robin, on Valentine’s plans: Valentine’s Day will be pretty low key: maybe cook some food and play Yahtzee. Mirjam: I don’t think either one of us is really crazy about Valentine’s day…
Mirjam, on love: Love is seeing and connecting with the divine essence of another person and the self. Robin: To me, Love is what we are born with in our hearts, but is a work in progress as we learn to expand that energy throughout our lives.

Morgan (Editor, Panda Head Mag [Issue 3: Late Winter is online this Monday, February 16; Launch Party next Saturday, February 21st at Comet Ping Pong]) + Kaylie (Border Collie)
Morgan, on Kaylie: Kaylie is very precise (she eats her Purina one piece at a time, into geometric patterns; her food bowl often resembles a pie chart) and her favorite things to do include pulling the stuffing out of toys, sleeping with her head under the bed, and getting dried off with a big towel after a walk in the rain. She is the neatest dog I have ever known.
Morgan, on Valentine’s Day plans: Kaylie’s special dog friend is a one-eyed Beagle named Wink. She won’t say whether they’ve got plans or not, but I know I’m spending my night in the company of friends in dresses and red velvet cupcakes.
Morgan, on love: I’ve had Kay since she was six weeks old, and eight years later we’re still as happy to see each other as the day we locked eyes at the SPCA. Love is friendship, loyalty, and not getting mad when “someone” throws up on the rug. Kaylie: Arf!

Libby (BYT’s own Girl Friday) + Alex (of fffever; see them next Thursday, February 19 with Loderunner at Velvet Lounge)
Libby, on Alex: Alex is just a straight up winner. He’s one of those rare people who can actually do anything he wants to and do it successfully. Total winner. Alex, on Libby: Libby’s insight is like gold; she always has the right solution. It amazes me, and results in me staring at her all googly-eyed. Oh yeah, she’s a great kisser, and wears bows in her hair, which is fantastically hot.
Alex, on their relationship: What’s so wonderful about our relationship is that Libby and I are different in so many ways, yet when it comes to everything that actually matters, we are in total agreement. It gives a lot of room to grow together without ever having to be bothered with the petty relationship issues that so many people run into.
Libby, on love: Love is when you find someone who understands that the theme from Jurassic Park is going to be playing when you walk down the aisle. Alex: Love is spelled differently for everybody, but I’m pretty sure it has something to do with nicknames like “Pony” and “Tuna.”
add up
good stuff

February 12, 2009 at 11:09 amnot to contradict THE CURE on love but after seeing all these lovely folks, it’s THURSDAY and I’M-IN-LOVE!
… their lyrics always stay with me around Valentine’s Day, no?
“I don’t care if Monday’s blue
Tuesday’s grey and Wednesday too
Thursday I don’t care about you
It’s Friday, I’m in love
Monday you can fall apart
Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart
Oh, Thursday doesn’t even start
It’s Friday I’m in love”
Cassidy is HOT – i think i Love love her.

February 12, 2009 at 11:37 amFeels left out. Wanted a photo montage of me and motorcycle motors in various stages of assembly.
Or in a bathtub full of Jamesons.
February 12, 2009 at 11:52 amCale, that’s cuz like you, i heard your mom is also cheap and only tips singles… why are you such a hater? Cassidy is a baller and you are not. period. >>STOP SIPPING THAT HATERADE<<
February 12, 2009 at 12:19 pmwinner: you are either cassidy or one of her lame minions.
if cassidy had an ounce of self awareness, she would most likely want to shoot herself in the foot, or in the mouth.
February 12, 2009 at 12:23 pmBoth them birds and all that scratch are hot.
February 12, 2009 at 12:29 pmMorgy – your dog reminds me of this show I saw on Discovery or Animal Planet about dog intelligence. There was this rescue dog that surprised his owner one day by running around this big yard organizing his many toys into very specific piles/patterns. Like a triangle of 3 frog toys all face up, and another triangle of 3 cat toys all face down, or whatever. They had a camera on him to see him do it without the owner present. There was also this test that showed how dogs responded to human eye cues much more strongly than chimps. I don’t remember all the details, but it was really interesting, anyone else see it?
February 12, 2009 at 12:31 pmOne dollar dollar bills ya’ll!

February 12, 2009 at 12:57 pmcale, i believe you are referring to “Dog Genius” which aired, ahem, on the National Geographic Channel and was produced by National Geographic Television.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGQ0n0A71xQ
It also features a super-smart border collie who looks a lot like Kaylie!!
February 12, 2009 at 1:11 pmCale – this is true (about dogs) and another reason I hate dog parks and most dog owners. They will yell and scream and make all kinds of antics while trying to get their dog to do something when all the dog wants is an eye cue or a simple finger motion.
Pointing to your side works a heck of a lot better than comeherepoochieohgooddoggiepoochie ohcomeoncomeoncomeonawwwyou’resosweet poochiecomeoncomeoncome on POOCHIE COME HERE NOW!

Also, yes, a love photoshoot of Michael and his manly parts sounds amazing.
Did I just say that?
February 12, 2009 at 1:23 pmI don’t know Cassidy, but the hatin’ on here for her is bizarre.
Also the photo of Michael surrounded by parts and Jameson bottles should look something like this
February 12, 2009 at 1:31 pmcan we all spend a second discussing the general adorableness of trae and carolyn in here?

February 13, 2009 at 4:42 pmim sure someone already commented about it seeing as how witty everyone around here is, but i am going to say it again if it hasnt already been said….
cassidy and lauren, you need some better suga daddies. all i see are ones…well one fifty. hahaha. you guys are welfare ballin!
February 14, 2009 at 4:07 pmcassidy is honestly a very generous and nice person
however, she could stand to use a bit more discretion on who she surrounds herself with…(obnoxious girls with terrible personalities)
but lets be honest, thats what this whole site, and your whole scene is about…so why fault her more that any of yourselves?
