Universal Gear innaugurated its new flagship location on Friday evening with an in-house launch party which featured a runway show and New York DJ Sin Morea. Hosted by WTTG Fox 5 news anchor Will Thomas, nearly 200 guests filled in between floor displays to watch Diesel models parade new menswear. Alcohol, and the afterparty, were provided by nearby bar Halo.
The expanded space at 14th And Church Streets in Logan Circle becomes the flagship location for the men’s clothing retailer, which also operates stores in Atlanta, Chicago and New York. Replacing Universal Gear’s previous perch a few blocks west on 17th Street, the current location continues the shift eastward of the District’s gay commercial community (furniture retailer Reincarnations along with Circle Boutique have also made the jump over to 14th Street from their previous locations on 17th Street). And since Universal Gear doesn’t market itself exclusively as a gay retailer, a certain straight BYT contributor with a penchant for hipster club fashion made sure to spend enough during the launch party to keep it that way.

If by ‘gay 80s dude’ you mean straight, skinny Cale. Then maybe.

December 10, 2007 at 1:21 pmThere was a photo taken of us side by side so we can compare, but it was after Ryan left. John, do you know where those photos are being posted?
December 10, 2007 at 1:24 pmAlso - I love my new Triple 5 Soul jacket, it has these backpack straps so you can carry it around easily when you’re indoors or whatever. Skittles!
December 10, 2007 at 1:26 pmThe gay drink holder in question looks like he hit the botox kiosk at the mall on his way to the show. I would suggest that next time he runs, runs so far away….from the needle to the face.
December 10, 2007 at 3:13 pmWait, there is a botox kiosk????????????

second large picture: exactly the reason why i stopped sporting the fauxhawk.
December 13, 2007 at 4:29 pmYeah, I think all those comments are really directed at my former fro-hawk, not that guy’s. While I am not down with fauxhawks in general, flock-hawks (as in Seagulls) will always score with me. I kind of miss mine. =(
December 13, 2007 at 11:05 pmHi…I’m the guy with the “faux-flock-hawk” Did I really look that bad? ps I live for the Botox comments…thanks
