so styleistic: STYLEistics fall 07 preview

October 18, 2007 by Morgan

This Saturday is the third installment of BYT’s STYLEistics! In the interest of making it ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE for you to not want to go, we took clothes from each of the designers and some kicks from Palace 5ive, then proceeded to get SO STYLEISTIC with them and some Very Good-Looking kids. Come out Saturday night from 7-10 for ALL OF THIS and MORE – including free champagne, a beauty lounge, some amazing DJs AND a wicked Garutachi afterparty. See you then!

Ooooh you make me live…
On Austin: hoodie by Richmond’s Flux Rad. Kenneth Close’s line of men’s and women’s screenprinted apparel is clean, graphic and just so smart; meet it in the My Bloody Valentine Suite on Saturday.
On Syrita: B Clothing’s Wolf/Bunny shirt; equal parts Bogota and DC and designed by Eduardo Garcia, B Clothing’s prints range from guitars to bunny rabbits and manages to be adorable AND razor sharp. Check it out in the Front Room at the event.

It’s you! You’re all I see…
On Syrita: “Want Not Need” unisex shirt by Plastic Heaven. Davinia Robert’s DC-based line of rad jewelry and shirts is fresh out of the gates and off to an inspired start: the current collection celebrates icons who dedicated their lives to spreading the message of Peace. Visit her and her pieces (peaces!) in the Presidential Suite.
On Austin: Clap’s “Monster Suede Heart Tote.” Cortney Hungerford’s bags, totes, and clutches (made in DC from both new and resourced materials) run from small-and-bejeweled to large-and-in-charge and are always exaggerated in all the right ways. Get ‘em in the My Bloody Valentine Suite.
Austin’s Vans available at Palace 5ive.

And I want you to know that my feelings are true…
On Austin: Braided angora scarf by De*Nada Design. Virginia Arrisueno has been making bags perfect for life in the city since 2005, and with the recent addition of great graphic t-shirts and ultra-versatile, ultra-soft scarves she’s proving De*Nada to be the little clothing line that could. Be all over it in the Presidential Suite.
On Syrita: Enderby cape. Meg Allan’s Brooklyn-based apparel and home collections are pure vintage with a crafty kick. With pieces like a hot-dog appliqued tweed skirt and a bacon-and-eggs “Brunch” tote, Enderby is quirky and charming as all get out. Meet up in the Presidential Suite.
Also on Syrita: Realm cameo necklace. The District’s Jesse Walker creates jewelry that’s at times industrial and sharp – but each piece is tempered by its unexpectedness and beautiful composition. Every necklace, bracelet, ring and earring is special but totally wearable; discover Realm in the Presidential Suite on Saturday.

You’re my best friend.
On Syrita: Muss “Librarian Skirt.” DC’s Morgan Hungerford lovingly tears-apart-and-reconstructs vintage and thrift store skirts, dresses, and tops to make the things that she’s dying to wear. Stop by the My Bloody Valentine Suite on Saturday night to say hi and to check out the WARES.
On Austin: DURKL “Crooked Rain” shirt. Will and Cole Sharp are District residents with an insane love for brights, patterns, and contrasting colors; their line of printed shirts, hats socks, sunglasses and MORE is solid evidence of the brilliance of combining the three. They’re introducing their brand new DENIM LINE at STYLEistics, so be sure to visit them (and DJ Gavin Holland) in the Mao Suite.
Austin’s Supras available at Palace 5ive.

Photographer: Joel Didrikson of Kingpin Photo.
Models: Austin Mcfarland and Syrita Morgan.
Styling asst.: Cortney Hungerford.

*All of the Fall 07 designers are represented, with the exception of Treat DC – but you can check out Amy’s cute line of dresses in the Front Room on Saturday!*

**Special thanks to Palace 5ive (2220 14th St NW) for the Vans Sk8-Hi’s and the Supras.**

Cale – stop ripping off John Waters.

BYT: Ok, I have to say it. Can we cut it with this “after party” shit? Seriously? Because to every single person on the planet “after party” means a party after the bars close, and I’ve never seen one of these by BYT (especially not broadcast).

Yeah, I’m niggling. But seriously. And hell, maybe I’m wrong. Maybe I am the only person who reads “after party” and assumes some awesome happening post 2 am S-T and post 3 am F and S.

Maybe.

So how about an “awesome after-event party” or something?

Otherwise I’m going to start showing up at your houses when the Black Cat staff force me out…
