Project Runway: How (Not) To Stand Out…

Project Runway: How (Not) To Stand Out…

September 11, 2009 by Svetlana

This week Project Runway continued its blah run of blah by having the designers design for their models.
The shock!
The horror!
The need for extreme skill to create clothes for women that are sample sized!
Give me a break!
I almost threw my remote at the TV when I found out but then decided it was not worth it.
Now, I understand that this was a stupid ploy to get us to like and care about the poor models more so as to boost the ratings of the (completely pointless) “Models of the Runway” spin-off that comes on right after “Project runway”, but STILL! Couldn’t we have at least come up with something a little more interesting than (yet another) cocktail dress?
I mean, don’t they pay you people the big bucks to make this show?
Anyhoo, as blah as it started, as blah it finished.
There were no attempts to even manufacture drama during the work process (some catty remarks took place here and there) because you cannot manufacture anything from thin air and the whole thing was thus dedicated to long, soft lingers on Logan’s cheekbones and smooth torso and silver pants with silver shoes and bee stung lips of a baby cherub.
Too bad that he got comepletely lost along the way (I guess the cameras can be distracting if all they are doing is lingering on you) and made some shitty, shitty black/blue smurft prom dress (he even called it that) instead of working with Kojii, his model, who is obviously super cool and making something adorable and short and edgy.

Anyway, the runway process was laaaaaaayme though I did love the way Carol Hannah’s model looked in the purple silk dominatrix number, and with some gold bangles Epperson’s dress could be exactly what I wanted for my next NYE outfit and Althea’s outfit, which won (and was not a dress), was awesome. So young and sharp and sassy and kick ass. I sense good things coming from her. In fact, at this point, she is the only one I sense good things coming from.

But, after 2 weeks of MIchael Kors jumping ship, this week even Nina decided not to attend, further proving that this season is too boring even for the people involved. Instead there was some woman who costumes Angelina Jolie, a Marie Claire lackey that got brow beaten into attending, and Marc Bouwer who is incapable of expressing emotion due to an excess of botulism in his face.

Johhny (designing “for myself, if I was a black girl”), Logan and Qrystil (with a horrible black number) were in the bottom three and Qrystil got sent home continuing the streak of extreme predictableness.

Next week, I dunno, they make a dress for Heidi? Who, you know, is a model.
Or something equally “shocking”?
WHAT DID YOU THINK?

lash Says:

too uninspired to write anything about PR but curious to see local dc designers…maybe byt could do a spotlight on something like that…? a PR tie-in? I know there’s a couple of cool boutiques on 14th & U but dont know if the seamstresses/designs are local. Redeem is on my mind as I write this, cant remember the names of the others.
