Picks For Fall

Picks For Fall

Before I even get to the clothes, did anyone else go see Tricky at 930 this weekend? It blew my mind.

Aside from witnessing one of the most intense shows I have ever seen, I also managed to get out shopping for the first time in months. Now I am officially ready to ditch the shorts and dip into long pants and sweaters again. It happens every year; I freeze through winter, breeze through spring, sweat through summer, and by the end of August convince myself that I will not last another day of heat and humidity. So in anticipation of the best season of the year, here are my top 5 fall picks for guys and gals.

Let’s start with the men first…
1. Cashmere/cotton argyle v-neck sweater
2. Military-inspired jacket – Marc Jacobs if your looking to spend $$$, or try Black Rivet at Nordstrom
3. Grey v-neck tee – cheap, simple and it just looks so good
4. Blackstone distressed ankle boots – go to Carbon inWoodley Park
5. John Varvatos Vintage cologne – Best. Scent. Ever.

And for the ladies….

1. Gap low rise bell jeans – bye bye skinny jeans!
2. Short tweed jacket – not everyone can pull off this look. If you don’t buy the right size or are on the shorter side, it can make you look boxy.
3. Knee-high flat grey boots – check out Cole Haan’s G series or Frye’s Paige boot
4. Large leather purse – Furla’s Afrodite to be exact.
5. Scarf Print tunics and long dresses

What are you feeling as we head into fall? Any looks you are loving… or hating?

This school boy blazer looks surprisingly well-made:

oh yeah, and tricky sucked my balls. his weak ass, the chick that is not Martina Topley Bird and the band looked bored out of their minds. i started getting nausea watching him shake his head back and forth for absolutely no reason. weakest. show. ever.

man, tricky..and i loved you so much…

I was in F21 on Sunday and aside from feeling entirely too old to be there, I though they had some quality items. Except, let’s be honest… it is hard to justify paying anything more than $20 on a item from that store.

And as for Tricky … sorry I just am not with you on that one!

jv vintage? really? marc jacobs’ scent is a lot younger, on point with the surplus jacket though. best bargain for that would probably be an actual surplus store, like ranger surplus. they also carry those military sweaters with the nylon patches. i’m fond of those for colder weather.

Hmmm, I wouldn’t say “bye, bye” skinny jeans. I think the skinny is still very much here - see D&G tweed skinny suits and Givenchy skinny leather pants (love those). I think the low rise style, however, is being (rightly so) relegated to music clubs and high schools. The higher waist is much more flattering for most people. Personally, I am really liking all the tartans and bowed blouses (both worn with skinny leather pants, of course).

I agree that the skinny jean is still here… but aside from being the ideal jean for boots, I am ready for a new look. i am excited for the boycut jeans that will actually let me breath when I wear them! (though, I don’t think I am ready to buy into french cuffing them… yet!)
