Brightest Young Things

Similar to the DunkXchange, Sneaker Pimps took over DC Star nightclub with dudes who love sneakers and everything that goes with them.
Wale and Clipse were there too.

Finding the medium between trendy and over saturated in sneaker culture is a fine line. The folks at Sneakerpimps do a wonderful job of creating an atmosphere that allows the fashion and creativity of street and footwear to flourish.

Last Saturday DC Star was a display of art, music and design as Sneakerpimps returned to the capitol for the first time since 2004.  Headlined by Virginia based hip hop duo The Clipse and the area's own star Wale, Sneakerpimps DC attracted the shoe enthusiasts and hip hop heads from as far away as Philadelphia and Virginia Beach.

Long gone are the days of standard black or grey shoes being the staples of DC area footwear, brightly colored hightops and skateboard shoes with various patterns and textures are now the norm.
Custom sneakers from artists like Kaws, Futura and Methamphibian were on display throughout the venue as well as vintage and VERY hard to find Jordan, Dunk and Adidas models.

The music was provided by DJ Heat in between performances of various local acts, Phil Ade, XO, Ra the MC  and Kingpin Slim all set the tone for new artist J.Cole, Wale (who performed with UCB) and The Clipse.

Enjoy the footwear rainbow:

Streetwear is dead.
Long live the streetwear.

I remember back when I had about 3 friends who were into dope Nikes, limited edition t-shirts and really well made jeans. Now it's just whatever - everybody's got one. Mad random heads walking around like "Yo, you gots to see this one pair of deadstock Blazers I copped off Ebay. Sooooo dope." It's nowhere nearly as fuckwithable as it was 4 summers ago, or 10 years ago, for that matter.

Funnily enough, I don't mind all the neon-neon ish.

Wa na na on the ill na na.
