And now, for the most bizarre fashion week presentation of the season…
Alice + Olivia must have been hit really hard by the recession, because their Fall 2009 show at their store across from the tents was hardly a show at all. There were four barely noticeable models in the corner standing in the clothes. In front of the models and throughout the store were these hanging styrofoam heads with fake Kanye glasses, wigs, bags filled with candy, and clothes from the new season. Most of the collection, however, was viewed via photos on the wall with random pieces of jewelry, bows, and other various embellishments stuck to them. There was also a wall in the middle of the store plastered with photos of Cory Kennedy and Peaches Geldof modeling the clothes. The free champagne and mini cupcakes were nice. But all of a sudden, it hit me: I am in a store taking photos of photos. Of Cory Kennedy.
Even weirder was the influx of celebrities at this non-show…more of them decided to show up at this than any actual show I’ve been to yet (Note: obviously I stayed home from the Marc Jacobs guerilla afterparty which is currently taking place down the street to edit photos, write this to you, and catch up on neglected work and sleep. If Rachel Zoe appears drunk out my window at any point in time, I’ll let you know). Kristin Bell, Paris and Nicky Hilton, that guy who plays the gay guy on Ugly Betty, Katrina Bowden, Kim Kardashian (who was there for five seconds and I missed, which sucks, because she is flawless), that girl from The Cheetah Girls who is dating Kim Kardashian’s brother, Coco Rocha, Shanae Grimes, Peaches Geldof (who is prettier in person but also looks like she has a permanent evil, condescending stare on her face – or maybe she was just voraciously underwhelmed, too) Ally Hillfiger, and some more “famous” people that I couldn’t even identify all made appearances.
I mean, I get it, Stacey Bendet. You are cute and your clothes (most of them – a couple of the new pieces were FUGLY) are cute and carefree. But fun and carefree do not equate to Paris Hilton in a crack baby’s nightmare. I like most of your clothes, I do – but just not styled poorly on retarded mannequins. You could have held a much more tasteful and clean presentation with basic white mannequins donning the clothes – afterall, seeing the clothes is the whole point of a fashion show, right?
i just read your rather uninsightful trying too had to have an opinion, helloooo wannabe controversial blogger column. whats underwhelming is your complete lack of understanding of the event and its elements of presentation. but i guess it takes people with vision and creativity to understand an event verses the 3rd grade education it takes to write nasty things about people. and um, ok, basic white mannequins sound really really interesting, or um about as interesting as this blog.

Stacey
I am SO glad Alyssa is covering fashion week. I always enjoy her photography and the perspective has been wonderful. Thanks!
February 19, 2009 at 3:59 pmAre “trying to had” the words of a woman we are supposed to respect as an authority? Or should I say a hormonal designer that doesn’t respect critique as well an uneducated 3rd grader. What you don’t seem to understand is writers write what they see, or apparently couldn’t see via lack of actual models. So next time you are googling Alice and Olivia trying to find validating views on something that is obviously an issue for you, look up a definition of critic, oh yea and reality.
I’m sorry Stacey but RGDS.

thanks for sharing.
Kudos to anyone who can actually get through reading it. BYT you guys could actually have a good thing going if you got a tough editor. Everything is just so damn hard to read (and about three times as long as it needs to be).
February 20, 2009 at 9:37 amit is 3 paragraphs. correctly punctuated. with a lot of photos around. how hard can it really be to read that? and if it is hard/too long, what does that say about our collective attention spans?
February 20, 2009 at 10:10 ami like alice + olivia, and i love their line for payless!
but will someone please explain why peaches geldof and cory kennedy are such a big deal?
February 20, 2009 at 10:24 amI read pictures with my eyes!
February 20, 2009 at 10:30 ami love the photo format. its pretty sweet and one of the reasons why i read BYT so often. I like that it isnt just a boring stream of same size photos but a great collection with an eye toward design and graffic design. oh, did i mention i love BYTs graffics? who does them?
