First up: Vena Cava
I know it’s sort of faux-pas for me to attempt to objectively critique a collection that I have spent the last few months working closely on, but if I didn’t believe in the clothes I wouldn’t run around shortening zippers at 9 am, or spend weeknights chipper at castings ’till 10:30. Usually, even collections by designers who can do no harm in my eyes have standout pieces and flops. However, Vena Cava’s F/W 09 presentation yesterday at Eyebeam in Chelsea contained a mass of tough-chic clothing that I would enthusiastically wear every piece of, down to the tippy toes of the perfectly studded Vena Cava for Via Spiga shoes. The great thing about Vena Cava’s new collection is how easy it is to digest, not to mention its exemplariness of perfect women’s contemporary ready-to-wear. Lisa and Sophie have released pretty, innovative pieces constructed of delicious materials in the perfect fall palette that every twentysomething in the city is already clamoring to wear.
Everything was ablaze backstage while the notoriously early Ms. Wintour was slated to arrive a half hour before doors. We thought we were doing fine, until all of a sudden a woman with an earpiece and a blackberry walked in, cleared her throat, and proclaimed: “She’s ten blocks away.”
Batshit craziness ENSUED.
(P.S., What a stereotypical “fashion moment,” right? So funny. Totally picture perfect.)
At any rate, somehow we got everything under control and got all but one of the girls out in time for Jesus’ arrival. Anna smiled a lot, Bee in tow, and said the collection was “focused.” We can only hope for the best.
MORE (much more) to come
OMGOMGOMGOMG! ANNA!
February 17, 2009 at 10:34 amThis is too thin.
I weight 111 lbs, I’m 5′8” and I am saying THEY ARE TOO SKINNY!!
It’s just not healthy or pretty when things get to this point…
So sad….
i wholeheartedly agree…during casting most of the girls were weak and told me they hadn’t eaten all day…and it’s all the agents’ faults, they are rushing these girls all over the place nonstop and they don’t even have time to eat. it is horribly sad. and when offered food, some of them didn’t even want to eat even though they hadn’t done so all day.
for the record we were maybe one of the only shows in history to have such a huge array backstage that there was even food LEFT OVER after the show…but maybe about three of the girls ate it.
you shouldn’t be able to see every bump in someone’s spine.
