Disclaimer: This is not a style-guide. This is not about fashion. This is not even judgmental. This column is about people on DC’s streets. People, who seem as if they put a thought or two into their outfits before leaving the house. People, whose look is working – for them, in their own opinion.
Every day we follow passersbys at their heels for five minutes to find out where and how they shopped and have them answer five quick questions about their look.
No particular scheme. No particular price range. No particular beauty standards. Just an outfit that for any reason caught our eye.
Why him? I know, I might be feeding the judging ones lines for hateful commentary, but wouldn’t you ask yourself why this guy is wearing a lego brick heart stuck to his head and a monkey?
Simba, 20, studies Psychology, Communications and Philosophy

Air Jordan II: $175
Puma Track Jacket: $40

Jansport Backpack: $30
Monkey: so old he can’t remember

Beanie: $15, Chicks & Danger
Heart Brooch: $100, Dee and Ricky

You probably know what I want to ask you…
I’ve got this monkey when I was 12 from the Liberty Science Center. It closed couple of days after so I kept it as a memory. The Center reopened but by that time the monkey has already become part of my personality. And no, he doesn’t have a name.
How often do you have to tell this story?
You are certainly not the first to ask. The monkey, the heart brooch, the tribal earring and my haircut, they make it easier to start a conversation. When girls are attracted to a guy they won’t come to you and say: “Hey, you are handsome.” My outter appereance give them a peg. Sometimes random girls would touch my hair. I don’t mind. I even like it. It’s weird though, when guys do it.
So how many girlfriends would you trace back to your clothes?
Zero girlfriends, but some… you know.
And how many of those?
I’m not the type for random hookups. So maybe two.
Two girls?
No, it’s more two handfulls of girls.
$100? too bad he didn’t read morgan’s old DIY column:

also, the suprise lurking under that hat was amazing.
December 9, 2009 at 12:29 pmThat Simba is probably choking his monkey right now. With a hairdo such as this… And I didn’t get about the red lego brick. What the fuck was that for?..

December 9, 2009 at 1:26 pmhow much was the puma jacket?
December 9, 2009 at 1:35 pmI was anticipating him being younger and being named after the movie character. I’m glad he’s not though.
He could spend $100 on legos and make fifty of those hearts. sad.
December 9, 2009 at 3:34 pm“Yeah mom, he’s really cute.”
“His name? Uh, Simba. Yeah, like the lion.”
“Well, no it’s a Lego heart. Yeah, like the toy.”
“No, just one earring. In the left ear. Yeah, it’s a horn.”
LOL I used to teach this dude at global diplomacy camp
I gotta plug him http://www.myspace.com/dizkreet
December 9, 2009 at 9:12 pmThis wasn’t a good day for Simba. I see him around Tenley often….typically dresses much better.
