Brightest Young Things

Disclaimer: This is not a style-guide. This is not about fashion. This is not even judgmental. This column is about people on DC’s streets. People, who seem as if they put a thought or two into their outfits before leaving the house. People, whose look is working – for them, in their own opinion.
Every day we follow passersbys at their heels for five minutes to find out where and how they shopped and have them answer five quick questions about their look.
No particular scheme. No particular price range. No particular beauty standards. Just an outfit that for any reason caught our eye.

Cecilia, 21, bartender

Why her: Cecilia's legs end where my shoulders begin. All my life I wanted to have legs like that and was wondering - what do you do with such a treasure?  Where do you dress them?

How much time do you spend on shopping?

Not much, I usually buy my stuff online. I don't do whole days of shopping, after two hours I just get tired ...

...hungry and frustrated?

Sometimes, especially when it comes to dressing my legs. It's a pain. Pants usually come out high-water and dresses are tunics on me. I love skirts. I have about 15 of them in my closet, but I just keep on buying more and more.

I don't want to open a discussion on Urban Outfitters, but since you have left at least 170 bucks there...

Well, it's a love-hate relationship. I can't stand people who are Urban head to toe, but they definitely have some good stuff. I try only to shop there for basics, articles which are not immediately recognizable as Urban. My favorite pieces are from Marshalls, Top Shop and T.J. Maxx.

Where do you get your outfit ideas from?

Fashion Toast, Le Blog De Betty, Who Wear What.

Do you sometimes feel guilty about thinking and spending so much on clothes?

I guess so. I spend about 200 bucks on clothes per month. Some people might think of it as vanity. But for me it's an artistic release, it's not different than paining a picture.

God loves a cheerful giver.
