Maybe it’s the 90 degree weather, but I am (quasi-) seriously considering never wearing jeans again. The mere thought of even attempting to get into a pair of skinny jeans is almost as oppressive as the humidity - and the same goes for slouchier fits and even widelegs. I’ve devoted the last two months to circle skirts and dresses, but I can only go so long with a uniform before itching for change. Trousers of all varieties are coming up big-time for Fall, and with ways to style them for Summer spotted far and wide on the street fashion blogs (Refinery 29 did some online scouting here), they seem to be the perfect (and mega-flattering) mid-season switch-up.
Regardless of cut, volume, or waist-edness, the trick is to style trousers exactly as you would denim - they’ll elevate any piece, from the most threadbare tee to your can’t-take-it-off tank, to form an easy and completely pulled-together whole. Scoring the perfect pair locally is a bit trickier, and barring H&M my first stop would be any men’s department or the local thrift stores. If you aren’t having success with the fit, buy big - the aforementioned Refinery 29 post unwittingly gives away some excellent DIY alteration tips: “Belts, paper-bag waists, lots of pleats and volume, and a few cuffs at the hem” are all easily manageable projects for an afternoon of Summer storms.
Trousers are super versatile as far as finishing the look goes, and while I trust that you’ve got this accessory thing down by now I will say that my fave Summer trouser looks involve flat sandals and the bare minimum in adornment. When the weather changes I’ll be all over obnoxiously tough heels or oxfords and tons of jewelry to offset all that menswear, but as we head for the dog days of the season I just want things to be BREEZY. Can you blame me?

Morgan, my hunt for the perfect trousers never ceases.
