Spring is always an easy time of year to get dressed - pretty skirts, floral dresses, and bare legs all make their comeback; everything gets topped with a denim jacket or trench or some other Amazing Spring Jacket of Cuteness. The Spring 08 runways not only took this formula to the max, but threw in a heavy dose of all things sheer for your viewing pleasure (literally AND figuratively, of course). As always, we thrifted (or otherwise locally resourced) three looks that are so-very-Spring-08 on a $40 budget, and, as always (okay, since last time), shoes were provided by our very best friends at Payless Shoe Source.

This Spring's florals come in versions from hothouse to art-inspired, but just as relevant are the small, repeating florals of the early 90s (and lucky for you, more than readily available in thrift stores). If you fear looking a little like your sixth grade yearbook picture, choose a cut that's 40s-reminiscent and break up the granny hemline by twisting one side up and pinning - and remember, Doc Martens are only OPTIONAL. Dress, $8.50 from Yesterday's Rose ; Electro Lady Pump from Payless's Holiday 07 collection; stylist's own belt.

Try layering sheer pieces for coverage, and don't worry - you won't lose a bit of sweetness dressing the trend down; the peek-a-boo aspect is inherently feminine. Nightie and skirt (worn together as dress), $9.98 and $5.98 from The Thrift Store of Virginia; necklace by Akemi Kanazaki, contact akemi@tastyandfreshness.com for info; khaki jacket, $6.98 from The Thrift Store of Virginia; American Eagle Confetti Skimmer in "Multi" available at Payless.

Hello, Spring uniform... Skirt (worn as dress), $4.98 from The Thrift Store of Virginia; scarf, $2.98 from The Thrift Store of Virginia; stylist's own belt and jacket; American Eagle Confetti Skimmer in "Multi" available at Payless.

God loves a cheerful giver.
Morgan - fantastic! I love all the fashion...and I'm glad you did something with those creepy murals on Wisconsin. They always make me sad, but they look kind of sweet here.
Bravo my love
Love the backdrops-very springy. Great outfits and her hair looks adorable. Great job all the way around.
Gay 80's Dude would totally go hetero for Akemi.

I third that emotion. Someone introduce me.
Yes, the fashions, I am looking at them. Yes indeed. And the cupcakes, yum.
I think Akemi Kanazaki should be my new friend. That way I could stare at her all day without making her feel uncomfortable.
well done! i love when you make skirts into dresses. so cute.
Morgan, you're so fabulous! The scarf on the head is most awesome. It's this year's turban, for sure. -the DCGF
