Brightest Young Things

I was just recently introduced to the very cool organization Fashion Fights Poverty. A lot of you have probably already heard of them. I am actually disappointed/surprised that am just catching on to them now. As it turns out, twice last week they were brought up in conversation as something I should check out. And I did.

What makes FFP so interesting is that they aren’t into making people feel bad about shopping. Instead they are about raising awareness on how people can shop responsibly and use fashion, design and creativity as a way of addressing poverty. This is why I heart them so much!

In a very condensed little nutshell, FFP is about two things:

Promoting responsible consumerism by both designers and socially-conscious consumers.
Recognizing designers and organizations who address the issue of poverty by adhering to fair trade principles, equitable compensation and by using environmentally sustainable materials.
And, as luck would have it, FFP has a great big event coming up at the end of this month. On Friday, September 26 they are hosting a fashion show at the St. Regis Hotel that will showcase ethical designs, including clothes by Adele Wechsler, Annatarian, Eric Finn, Kayce Armstrong, and Mae. All proceeds benefit Nest programs, which are dedicated to changing the lives of women in developing countries.

Check out their website for more info about the fashion show and other FFP events. Tickets are a little pricey, but it goes to support an amazing cause! Plus, Parker Posey will be the MC, and who doesn’t have a total people crush on her as the uber-bitch from Dazed and Confused?

God loves a cheerful giver.
