Well hello! Here are some DC style-related events and THINGS OF NOTE to write down in your little calendars or notepads:
Tomorrow! 10am! District Sample Sale tickets! The actual event is September 12th, but save yourself $15 and get them HERE tomorrow morning for only $40. Unless you're all loaded, in which case spring for the COUTURE MEMBERSHIP. Start saving your dollars for ultracheap pieces from Muleh, Sugar, and Sassanova (among others), and if the mere thought of wickedly affordable shoes/tops/dresses isn't enough to get your blood/excitement/estrogen flowing, maybe check out pictures and write-ups of Past Sales at Panda Head, After Hours, Project Beltway, DC Celine and DC Style. Oh yes, a portion of the proceeds benefit Miriam's House, AND ALSO Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation is DJing the VIP shopping hour. Everybody wins.
X is a relatively new, monthly ART HAPPENING at BeBar. Basically it's 3 graphic designers with their laptops and a challenge to create the next X flyer using 3 words chosen by the curator/judge. Their screens are projected on the wall so you can watch their "approaches and creative process" (while you sip drink specials). And this has to do with FASHION because while all this is going on there are ALSO local, independent designers selling their wares; past vendors include De*Nada, Kristina Bilonick, Alex Boutique, and Tina Seamonster. Keep an eye out for details on next month's event at the X myspace page.
And speaking of Tina Seamonster, you can check out her profile (and those of all the other Crafty Bastards vendors) over at the City Paper's Crafty Bastards site. All participating crafters are there for you to browse, as well as a HANDY MAP for plotting your course through the Marie Reed Learning Center on September 30th. I'm stoked to check out everybody's stuff, especially Daisy Lacy's, Enderby's, and Jezebel's. Who's on your must-see list?
And lastly, you should all go add the very new Pleasant Society to your myspace friends at your earliest convenience. It isn't necessarily style-oriented, but it seems really neat and interesting and sounds very much like a club Max Fischer would have dreamed up. You know, if Max Fischer lived in NW.
That is all I have for you this week. And though I USUALLY don't expect anything in return, I would be more-than-delighted if anyone could tell me what the story is with the stickers pictured in the header. They're all over the city and I think they're absolutely hilarious, but they are of mysterious origin (or at least I'M clueless about them). That girl's smile kills me a little everytime I walk past the one on my street.
God loves a cheerful giver.

looks like a healthy-faced version of Nicole Ritchie

Listopad is also hosting an event at Red Onion Records and Books, selling vintage clothing! Yazuzu is catering yummy food and DJ Name Names will be spinning! September 13 at 6pm.

1. the listopad girls put on a great event, so everybody hit that up for sure.
2. thanks to kat and svetlana for the dana thomas heads-up; if you got you'll probably get the chance to hobnob (hobKnob? i don't know.) with Robin Givhan & co. from the Post.
3. i don't have a computer at work so i have to check my email on my phone during the day. i had no idea what thumbnail was used for the column so i was really confused about the 'toast' and 'ice cream cone' comments. it's driftwood, y'all!
