Smell fancy in minutes with home made body scrub and fizzing bath bombs! This project will take no more than half an hour, is super easy, and makes for a really pretty gift when wrapped in cellophane and tied up with a bow.
Materials and Tools for Scrub:
-
1 medium mixing bowl
-
Spoon
-
1/2 cup coarse sea salt (you can also substitute sugar in the raw or coffee grinds)
-
1/4 cup baking soda
-
4 tbsp grapeseed oil (or why not - even olive oil)
-
A few drops of essential oil (for this project I used grapefruit. Whole foods has a good selection of this stuff, and the Body Shop does, too)
-
Fresh mint if you want to get extra fancy (I did.)
Mix ingredients together in bowl. Get into shower or bath. Scrub. It’s that simple.

The scrub stores really well and does not need refrigeration. I like to reuse random containers for storage, but if you wanted to make it look a bit prettier these are kind of adorable.
Materials and Tools for BOMBS:
- 1 medium mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Spray bottle (not entirely necessary, but it makes the process easier)
- 1/4 cup vitamin C powder
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- Witch hazel
- 10 drops of essential oil
It’s optional, but you can also do things like “borrow” lavendar (or herbs like basil or mint) from your neighbor’s garden and throw that into the mix for some pretty-ness. Or toss in a tablespoon or three of glitter (you raver!). Or use powder eyeshadow to tint your bath bombs.
I also used coffee grinds in one bomb because I heard the caffeine is supposed to wake up your skin in the morning.
1. In the mixing bowl, add your vitamin C powder and baking soda and mix well.
2. Toss in some essential oil and whatever else you want. I made four different bombs and each used the following:
-
Neroli Jasmine oil from Body Shop plus dried rose petals
-
Grapefruit oil from Whole Foods plus hot pink powder eyeshadow (a little goes a LONG way)
-
Coffee grinds
-
Lavendar oil and fresh lavendar
3. Pour witch hazel into spray bottle. Spritz 2-3 times and stir. Repeat. Keep going until the mixture looks dry and crumbly but can be packed like a snowball. Be sure not to get the mixture too wet or you’ll wind up with a foamy glob.

4. Pack ingredients tightly into little balls (or whatever shape you want - you can even use cookie cutters, muffin tins or create your own sculpture).

5. Let dry for a day.
6. BATH TIME!
If you want to package these as a gift, throw them in some cellophane and tie with a colorful ribbon/a sprig of dried flowers. You’re done!

Oh, Michael.
You can use the scrub in the shower…and I’m pretty sure it’d make a great steak rub if you had any left over…

I can’t take baths. I can barely take showers. I’m in and out in, like, seconds.
Once I decided to take a bath in my huge clawfoot. I went and got like $20 worth of natural bath crap. I ran water. I chose a good book. Shit was perfect.
I sat in the tub. Read a page, got bored and got out.
