Cock-Blocked by Heidi Klum: Thoughts on Project Runway Finale

Cock-Blocked by Heidi Klum: Thoughts on Project Runway Finale

March 6, 2008 by John Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Despite being designated as BYT’s gay on staff (ahem), I often fail to fulfill my homosexual obligations. Case in point: I don’t watch Project Runway.

I like guys and all, but I’m generally not into most of them “that way.” It is rare that I’m interested enough to go out with a guy. So, if I do find myself on a date, you can bet that I’m pretty damn excited about the evening.

That is why I was a bit crushed last night when my date cut short our dinner to skip out for the season finale of Project Runway. I never thought, as a gay guy, I would get cock-blocked by Heidi Klum.

And this obsession doesn’t just occupy the gays. I once had a straight buddy tell me one weekend “Sorry guy, I can’t play football with you today. There is a Project Runway marathon on and I need to catch up.”

Last week, I met a guy out at a bar. As the night progressed, we were frequently stopped by girls asking to take their picture with us. At first I was flattered that my writing had that reach among straight women (when I was a former music columnist, I had girls slip me their number in exchange for a photo all the time). It was only the next day that someone told me that I had been out drinking with a Project Runway finalist. I wasn’t the one all those girls were after. No, Klum and her crowd had seen that I was rejected by gay men, straight men and now straight women. The lesbians must be lining up in their comfortable shoes.

Perhaps our readers can fill me in. What am I missing? Why have all my coworkers been telling me to “make it work” for more than a week now?

What are your thoughts on the Project Runway finale?

I’ve blogged about it here.

I don’t mention Rami, because while his stuff is super-gorgeous and I’d happily own any of it, he just doesn’t motivate me to empty my wallet quite like the other finalists do.

LOVED IT. Love Christian. Hate Rami… Jillian is some random in the middle character for me. But, although her collection was a bit random, I liked it better than Rami.

John I can’t believe you haven’t jumped on the gay PR party train! I love this show. I like to tell people it is the best reality TV show and the only one I watch (but, we all know that’s not true).

I won’t spoil it or anything… I will just say that I didn’t want the winner to win because he annoys me but he totally deserves it.

From one of the the online blogs interviewing Christian post.show.

Are you dating anyone now?
I’m dating someone now, and I actually met him because of Project Runway. He found me on MySpace. He works for an online magazine and he wrote to me and asked for an interview, and we just started hanging out after that. Project Runway helped my love life, what up!

Is this you John?

Nicole - No, my online celebrity stalking has only returned restraining orders. But, why haven’t I used this site to get some ass?

Nicole Says:

Thats a good question. I’d think you’d be using it ONLY for some ass.

I roll my eyes in the general direction of this show and the people who like it.

I watch because the first season was a splendid celebration of creativity, design, and the wackiness of man. The show has since lost a bit of that luster, but I keep watching in hope that it might reclaim it.
