A single, gorgeous, The Hills-style tear rolled down my cheek when I heard the news that Beauty Island was closing. I'd like to suggest a moment of silence for the Columbia Road beauty shop that for so long provided all of us with $2 pairs of tights, the most out of control nail polish selection, and - my own personal Holy Grail - gold-plated, door-knocker earrings that read "100% Bitch" in script across the middle. It was also the very last place on Earth that you could score Strawberry Chap-Stick, and my heart weeps at its passing.
In lieu of flowers, please share your favorite Beauty Island purchase/memory/recollection in the comments section. If you need me I'll be in Adams Morgan, stocking up on Carmex and obscenely cheap eyeshadow while there's still time...
