I am pretty sure that the fact that the most exciting local fashion event in 2009 thus far is taking place in Bethesda should be telling us something, but I cannot quite decide what it is.
Nonetheless, if you are a local fashionista (shudder at the VERY thought of this word) then May 14th to 16th, Bethesda Row is where's its at, and Bethesda row is where you will be.
Organized by Barbara Patton, the lovely lady behind Patton Group Inc, THE FRONT ROW (click on the link for the Facebook invite) is a catch-all for 72 hours of non-stop talks, movie screenings, trunk shows and more.

The full schedule can be found by clicking here but I've handpicked a couple of highlights, just for you. OK?
Thursday
- 11AM TO 5PM: Urban Chic: Shoshanna Trunk Show. See the just-arrived summer 2009 collection, plus sips and nibbles
- 6PM TO 9PM: Luna hosts a BCBG Trunk Show. Meet BCBG rep Kim Annette Sealy as she showcases the spring/summer 2009 line, with specialty cocktails and gifts with purchase in the evening.
- Thursday, Trunk Show 11 - 9, cocktails and GWP from 6 - 9
- 10 PM Bethesda Row Cinema: a screening of Valentino: The Last Emperor, the award-winning film that has taken the fashion world by storm. The film will be introduced by Vanity Fair magazine correspondent Matt Tynauer, director of the film. RSVP required.
Friday
- Christian Siriano the last (fun) winner of Project Runway shows up @ The Bethesda Lane for a presumably fierce 7:30 pm fashion show.
- Meet bluemercury’s founder and CEO, Marla Malcolm Beck, 1:30
- Makeovers and Consultations by Experts from: Laura Mercier, NARS, Fresh, Skinceuticals,
- Bliss, Remede and Oribe. Call to book your complimentary appointment. Walk-ins welcome on a space-available basis.
- Urban Chic: Diane Von Furstenberg Trunk Show. Wrap yourself in DVF’s entire spring/summer line, and save 15% off this season. Friday, 11 am –6 pm.
Saturday
- More makeovers by bluemercury, because you know, you actually work on Fridays, so you could not make it that day.
- Stilettos on the Row. Meet Lauren Goldstein Crowe, author of the new biography The Towering World of Jimmy Choo. Reading, book signing, and discussion moderated by Tracey Lomrantz of Glamour magazine. Bethesda Lane promenade, 2 - 4 pm
+ quite literally a thousand other trunk shows, tastings and more.
Full details and RSVP information here.
Also, I am curious-what do you think about all this? Is this a fashion weekend DC deserves?
God loves a cheerful giver.
I love how I grow up in Bethesda my entire life and NOTHING exciting happens, and then, like, THE SECOND I move to New York to work in and study fashion this shit goes down.
Although not to sound jaded or anything, but that schedule kinda sucks. I mean, meet with "company reps" at a trunk show?
Every once in a blue moon the designers will actually come to their trunk shows at Neimans or Saks in Friendship or at Tysons. But why would I go to a store to meet a company representative? Really??
This is happening in Bethesda because it is such a typical Bethesda thing to totally flock to these stores and feel super self-righteous and in-the-know and insider-y after saying that you went to a "real fashion trunk show."
SOUNDS FIERCE
i'm totally hitting up bethesda anyways after work friday to visit my madre... must stop by! thanks for the info.
