The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

The Baltimore Weekly Re-Up

July 1, 2008 by Greg Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Tame week for me here in Bmore. Even the commute this morning was really sparse, people presumably having left for the week to celebrate the 4th. Show highlight of the week will likely be the MIDI fantasy epics by Adventure on Saturday at the Talking Head.

Thursday July 3rd

Batcomputer @ Lo-Fi Social Club

Annapolis’ Batcomputer floods your ears with floaty, swirling washes of haunting melodies underneath some simple, rudimentary rock creating a great atmospheric effect and a promising basisfor a live show.

A night of Graveyard Country with Red Sammy & Friends… and pie! @ 2640 Space

The description alone has my interest piqued. I have also been on a country/bluegrass binge as of late, listening to tons of Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn since I saw them at Bonnaroo.

Lyle Lovett @ Pier Six Pavilion

Seriously, how can you resist this one?

Friday July 4th

Fireworks & Celebration @ the Inner Harbor

If you want to fight for a spot, you can get primo, on-the-water viewing of Baltimore City’s official Independence Day Fireworks display. Or, if you are like me, you’ll avoid that whole mess and retreat to one of the city’s other neighborhoods, preferably to a friend’s row-house with a roof-top deck. From Canton, you can see no less than 6 local fireworks displays all at once.

Independence Day @ Sonar
I have no idea what this is, but I love the movie, so I love the flyer for this. And everything else around is dead. So if you aren’t celebrating by blowing up a piece of our nation, drink yourself to oblivion at this shindig.

Saturday July 5th

Adventure @ the Talking Head
I recently had an interview with Benny Boeldt aka Adventure, and the most surprising thing he said was that he isn’t big on video games. This coming from a man who could write some of the most epic video game soundtracks this side of Final Fantasy. And in MIDI. None of this orchestra BS. You gotta hear his stuff, it’s great.
