Duran Duran Video Extravaganza

Duran Duran Video Extravaganza

May 27, 2008 by Cale Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Duran Duran is playing tonight at Merriweather.  I’m totally going.

Let’s take a look back at some of their videos, which were pretty groundbreaking in their day: real movie cameras, real movie directors, exotic locales, story lines, videos for non-singles, getting new Grammy categories created for them, etc. That kind of stuff wasn’t being done back then.  Aaaand yeah, they haven’t aged well, but they’re still awesome.

Especially the uncensored version of Girls on Film, which is quite possibly the greatest video ever made (sorry MJ). Unfortunately youtube won’t let us embed due to its NSFWness, so click away:

Next, we have this classic.  My fav parts are the pink shirt and white jacket and the chick with the knife strapped to her leg, and of course the sax solo raft.

God, does this song ever end? And the pan flute! WTF? I love the 1 min mark where Simon can’t help himself and has to acknowledge the camera.

Some of the greatest hair and dance movies I’ve ever seen. And what’s up with that black and white naked shot?

I like when they yell at the little kid “where is this black girl I want to fuck!” and of course the bizarre jungle romp with low budget scratch marks.

Wow, they’re total super stars at this point, it’s like they’ve turned into Led Zep on Song Remains the Same. Coordinated jumps and new outfits/haircuts. I’m so hoping Merriweather is gonna be like this.

A couple from their 90’s comeback, I think I owned first the cassette single of Come Undone and then made the transition to CD’s and bought the full album. Plenty of 90’s lighting cliches and chicks underwater and projected video.

Actually Ordinary World is a pretty decent tune. And the band is still sexy as hell. But check out that ridiculous double necked guitar.

Duran Duran are named after the villain in the cult classic Jane Fonda sci-fi comedy Barbarella.  They referenced the film again in this great late 90’s era song/video.

Ok, I gotta stop watching Duran Duran videos.  See you at the show.

Duran Duran rocked in Chicago, and i gotta say, the show was ten times what i expected. Billy C from the pumpkins did rio with them at the end on guitar.

man Chicago and the first night of Vegas got lucky
The Killers were in Vegas the first show on Friday night and played on Planet Earth as the encore, they weren’t there the next night, on Saturday, when i was there

they really have an awesome electronic set in the middle where Simon sings Warm Leatherette and Underpass better than The Normal and John Foxx, respectively

you’re right about the rest of the band, but Simon still looks as handsome as ever

Nick Rhodes still has his classic new wave look, just a little older/saggier under the chin but not sporting a double just yet

I have been a fan since I was ten; when I heard I had a ticket to see DD at Merriweather; I was awestruck. I was so impressed (still am) with DD and their talent. I still majorly adore Simon and his performing antics; what a doll he is. They rocked the house, I was second row from the front (middle) I couldn’t have asked for a better view! - thank you DD for putting a child like smile on my face again.

I was front row center for the MD show. It was an amazing show. I love the electric set and the band played a variety of songs from their many cd’s. It was a long set and I felt like I got alot of show for my money. I have 3 more shows and felt it was money well spent.
