The last time Tim Warfield came to the Bohemian Caverns it was largely a disappointment; nothing to do with Mr. Warfield, whose playing and tone are rich, his own and seemingly effortless, but he was fronting a band that he had not chosen, they had chosen him. He returns this weekend to release his latest CD One For Shirley, a tribute to the legendary Jazz organist Shirley Scott. Mr. Warfield, a friend and mentee of the late Ms. Scott, will also no doubt be reasserting his well deserved notoriety as one of the top Jazz saxophonist playing today. This time around he has brought along a cast of incredibly promising musicians, featuring Brandon Lee on trumpet, the Pat Bianchi on Hammond B-3 organ, Daniel G. Sadownick on percussion, and Dana Hall on drums. Not to be missed, Mr. Warfield definitely deserves a second chance.
Tim Warfield Quintet @ the Bohemian Caverns
Friday, June 27th and Saturday, June 28th
Sets at 9PM and 11PM
(Tim Warfield with the Orrin Evans Quartet; the solo is vicious, video quality decidedly not)
Eddie,
I agree 100%, I could use some free tickets. Based on what I know of Bohemian, the cover will be $15. I looked at buying tickets online through Bohemian’s site (http://www.bohemiancaverns.com/calendar/publicevent.cfm?event_id=14813) and they were $22. Service charge?
I’ll see what I can negotiate with management for future shows; for the moment, you’ll have to pay, but I guarantee it’ll be worth it.
