I have spent the whole week passing out pretty systematically at 8pm only to wake up too late the next day while clutching my alarm that I somehow turned off during the previous night.
Which can really mean only one of two things:
a. I am too tired to be alive
or
b. By now I am so rested this weekend is going to be A-MAY-ZING.
Lets hope for the best and expect the worst.
As always, please look at the Art Itinerary and The classy Silverdocs preview for further guidance in areas non-related to raging but if raging is what you want, raging is what we’ve got.
OK.
Thursday
Kick the weekend off with some free drinks and fashion at Dekka. Then mosey on home, change into your Thursday best, pour a glass of wine and shed a tear while watching the results episode of “So you think you can dance”. I think Susie is going home and I am not too sad.
Orchestra Baobab is playing Birchmere and on a smaller scale Mr. Moccassin and Lode Runner take on Murky’s upstairs which is probably the most interesting local show all week but you know and I know that the third Thursday of the month is about Brazilian night at St.EX and nothing else Expect dance-offs.
Friday
Art Parties a go go. Then if you are not too tired after all that visual and visceral stimulation we recommend some dancing.
You know, to blow all that people watching steam off.
Joshua (who is behind Riff Raff and was Kara’s other Evil Disco half) is hosting Queerfest at the Cat and Tobi and Viper are holding (really fucking dangerous) court at Jimmy Valentine’s. To quote (Viper): I plan on getting black-out and playing at least 3 Prince songs in a row. Consider yourselves warned.
Saturday
Find a friend with a roof, pool, back yard, major porch and do some tanning. It is bad for you but everything in life is a little better when it smells of Hawaiian tropic. For reals.
Make yourself a SoCo Iced Tea. With Mint. Sip it slowly or you may pass out and wake up 5 hours later wondering what happened to your 35 minute nap. Trust me, we’ve done the research for you on this one.
(leave the creepy plastic camel out)
At night, put on something short and shimmery that shows off your new tan and go to 930 club where we and Blisspop are hosting the mother of all summer parties: 2 bands (The Dance Party and Wallpaper), 2 of the best local DJs (Will Eastman and Chris Burns) and 1 Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem.
Don’t drink and drive.
Just drink and hook up.
(With someone who lives nearby. Geographical convenience has long been underestimated as a rule of attraction. Now is the time to fix that.)
Here is a little inspirational track:
Sunday
You have that stimulus check burning a hole in your pocket. Admit it. Go to brunch. Go shopping. Go.
Then sleep and watch netflix. Cale tells me “The King of Kong” is amazing. I tell you that “The Savages” are amazing, and “Punch Drunk Love” is the best movie you probably still don’t own. WHY? EXACTLY.

you see how it all ended sweet?
Now, I KNOW I missed things so tell me what were they.
Its a free forum.
Can someone answer whether this is something that is public or is it more of a “word of mouth” operation, more of a “friends and frenemies of Cory”? I mean, station 9 is not all that big, and with that line up and for nothing…That’s why I left if off. Cory can inform everyone he wants to see, it didn’t seem like something for the calendar.

I’ll be bartending and (if everything goes as planned,) i’ll also do a little guest DJing. Although, whether or not i end getting to DJ is really not as important as the fact that Kim and Sara will be playing some straight up rock.
June 19, 2008 at 5:15 pmChad - seconded. It’s at least as good as that other rock night that Hey Sailor did, it just needs the hype.
June 19, 2008 at 5:38 pmthe STATION 9 send off is public. add it! it was going to be word of mouth when the venue was going to be a tiny hole in the wall, but STATION 9 was secured, so it’s a go, go, go!

June 20, 2008 at 9:32 amCale, in that case there should be only one person there, an aging 58 year old guy in a leisure suit and a lot of business cards, drinking a Pina Colada and wondering where all the women are, because Disco fucking sucks.

June 20, 2008 at 2:55 pmCale is right. King of Kong is amazing. I got it on Netflix a few months ago. Who knew Donkey Kong was considered the most difficult classic video game? Warning: you’ll feel like a huge nerd for thinking it was amazing afterwards.
