This past (glorious!!) Saturday found many a member and fan of DC's local music scene out in support of True Womanhood's music video for "The Monk." With art direction (and organization) by James Magnum, III and Michael Andrew Harris (of Laughing Man fame), the video was shot guerrilla style by a slew of spectators with camera phones, professional film gear and the occasional point-and-shoot. The concept was simple: Play in a public place without getting the police involved. With the original agenda to just set up shop at the base of the Mt. Vernon Square metro, True Womanhood played to a stunned grouping of passersby that included robot enthusiasts, hipsters, and future biggest loser contestants. Luck seemed to be on the side of the creatives when no interruptions were had. The set concluded with a young boy staring with amazement at Thomas, Melissa and Noam before exclaiming, "Wooooooooooooooooooah!" to his mother standing nearby. Talk about a cinematic moment!

Adrenaline was at an all-time high post performance which brought our merry band of music makers and film takers on an impromptu journey to Chinatown. Some hiked on foot, others squished into the True Womanhood mobile (or hopped in the back of Carol Wagner Greenwood's pickup to enjoy a breezy ride around town) to where the cast and crew set up shop right in front of Clyde's. Again the same "get in, get out quick" scenario was employed and True Womanhood rocked the crowd of city patrons as they left seeing Alice in Wonderland 3D or consumed a delicious burrito at Chipotle. Some notable highlights include the bartenders at Clyde's on the Walk fist-pumpin' in tune with the jams right outside their window and this little guy, pictured below, who was more than happy to offer his thumbs up in support of True Womanhood. You've got the right idea, kid. They totally kicked ass.

Currently the video is in the editing stage and will be hitting the blogosphere soon. For now enjoy my own (inexperienced) behind-the-scenes slice of the action. Many thanks to TW and the crew for letting me participate in this awesome project! Can't wait to see the final result!
