It was one of those nights that starts off humbly and unassumingly, only to spontaneously go super fucking nova til closing time, then spits people out stumbling onto Columbia Road. To promote his weekly (minus the last thursday of the month) Top Rankin party at Napoleon Bistro & Lounge, DJ Meistro produced a 72 minute top-shelf Afrobeat mix CD that feels like 4:59 PM on the friday of a long weekend. Last thursday, Napoleon hosted a release party for the CD(check with them for copies) serving complimentary champaign and some seriously tasty finger food to a crowd that seemed to mostly be in it for the free shit; this was confirmed at 10 o’clock when freebies turned to pumpkins and a shift change to a less carpetbagger crowd ensued. That’s when the fever kicked in.
“So where are you going to now?”
“Oh we’re going to the Lounge. One of my friends is uh.. djing there”
“(Ha ha. Don’t get stabbed. (syke)) Word? Who?”
“…. well he’s really not … um … what time is it?”
Around 11, Sleazy McQueen from Florida took over. I don’t recall what he played. If was anything like the his mix CD (watch yer back Chris Burns), it was probably too perfect a soundtrack for the ass-grabbing, champaign-in-a-can swigging (!!!), headbutting (please don’t mention Manchester United. ever. please) and whatever else went overboard, got out of hand and (involuntarily) erased from RAM.

Yeah, Dougie always looks so hot in that pink top. The Slezzy McQueen mix CD is great, lined up with all original production! Not to mention, Marc’s top ranking mix is hot, funky, and nowhere close to junk. Thanks to James for the late night host!
