all photos: Lexie Moreland
Project 4 Gallery has always been one of our favorites: for both its show choices and as a place to see art (kudos to Inscape architects). Last week they opened their first exhibit at their brand, spanking new space on U street (right above the Hamiltonian) and…it was a scorcher.
As I arrived to the space, Lexie is standing in front, camera bag bigger than her, eyes bigger than the camera bag and says: I just could not take my eyes off of it
So we go up the stairs and over the pation and into the parallel little universe that Thomas Mueller created inside: dominating it all are glossy, terrific product ad quality prints of Mueller’s teeny, tiny clay animals perched on top of fruits.
The photos are A LITTLE above your sight line, and the sculptures are A LITTLE below your sight line emphasizing the overall feeling of the difference in scale.
You are instantly both drawn in and taken aback, faced with the deterioration of the fruit you see so healthy and shiny in front of you, almost blinded by the photos on stark white background, and yes, you cannot stop staring.
Highly recommended.

the new space is truly amazing.
I like how they keepz it real. So much like the old space and yet, much more special.
It’s good to know there’s still a gallery with an overhang.
The art was great.
I wish somebody downstairs would ask project 4 for how to acquire better artists for their shows…
