My blur, not yours ...
At one end of the long sheet of weekend that was is a fuzzy horizon line that I'm guessing can be called the beginning. And it starts around 11:50-something PM last Friday night at the new kid's, Policy. The flagship Friday nights have kept the momentum going since opening about a month ago, due mainly to event consultant Kevin Lance Murray and the talent he pulls. Tonight it's Chris Burns, but it wasn't until 1AM that the extra-restless crowd stopped its coming and going and settled then started responding to Burns' disco. And that there's nee room to dance has never seemed to stop or bother anyone for doing it. Bust also the presence of a couple of local celebs-of-scale, eg. Washington Life magazine's Michael Clements and Black DC's emperor of
aspirational
pedigreed nightlifing, Marc Barnes.
Later, I took my business down the street to Velvet Lounge, where ff[f...F]ever were somewhere between loading out and basking in the motherly warmth of the bar downstairs. Said bar don't never play.

Saturday night, however is a bit of a mystery. I remember something about Lucky Bar, then Velvet Lounge (seems like every weekend night around 1AM or so, all streets seem to
tilt towards
lead to the latter), then finally, for some unnatural reason, Saint friggin Ex where Will Eastman was spinning. Nothing wrong with Eastman, or even the bar necessarily. It's just never really been part of any purposeful weekend pla ... oh yes ... WAYS-TED. Good enough times though. I left through the alley that cuts by the Parks and Rec warehouse and watched what I think were Howard freshman in no shit black hoodies and kabuki masks practicing their step routine for some frat they were rushing. They let me watch but not shoot. Acceptable. Because they could've been some hungry black zombies. Then off to Kramerbooks for some takeout to lure the booty call ...

On second and third thoughts my weekend probably began on Thursday at Current. The Washington Post's Going Out Gurus were hosting their monthly happy hour with Christine Moritz djing. Points for the second-story patio that puts ass smack in the middle of highrise amazon. I'm a huge fan of JG Ballard and umm vistas like this, so a win and a win.

Hilight was swapping lenses with Dakota, who was on the clock for the Post, and seeing how ridonculoidedly my 14mm beast rendered images on a full-frame camera. Haha.
> END geek
And then something something Shorts later that night.

Ah. Chlorinated water kicks in ... mind's jolted clear .... so, well, my weekend might've actually started all the way back on Monday at Steve's Bar Room about a door away from The Big Cunt. It's The Fringe. Formerly known as the poor wee party that suffered all last summer under Shorts' shadow for happening on the same night and, to make it worse, just a few blocks away at Napoleon. The new location and the ballsy choice to go with Mondays have paid off for hosts Tru and Dimitris George. Will Eastman — who's seemingly following me backwards in time here — was guest dj.

Looking forward to remembering this weekend.

marrying bottles of alcohol is an illegal practice in dc, but lots of places do it anyway. maybe you should think about pulling that pic as to not get one of your haunts in trouble with ABC. just a suggestion.
