If you were at the Trinidad and Tobago Association clubhouse last Saturday and you weren’t Chris Burns or one of the ELM set, chances are you were stuck, happily, in one of two very mutually exclusive worlds. Upstairs, Chris Burns and headliner Mr. V — ex-Masters At Work, currently running Sole Channel Music — got busy setting a deep deep tone, prompting full-on group calisthenics and multiple dance circles cutting lines in the baby powder. No one seemed interested or remotely aware of the CoHi All Stars set downstairs, let alone that sets displacement by a drop in by Diplo plus Switch, 77Klash and others, more or less fresh from their show at the relentlessly sub par Rock and Roll Hotel just after Philip Goyette (LVL Up), Jacob Talbot’s (Deep Sang) sessions.
The fire hazard I expected for Diplo’s appearance never happened. Good. For about 30 minutes, the TnT clubhouse’s basement was a mildly chaotic, happy place. Then a fuse, or something, blew. Show’s over.
It should be noted that I was feeling the shit out of the rotary mixer used upstairs. It would look even cooler made completely out of wood and raw lead like those old-timey radios.

Now I’m noticing the behemoth that Ron Trent used at 411 was the same make (yes?), but with a bazillion more channels and who knows what else > http://www.flickr.com/photos/sexyfitsum/sets/72157608190100725/
June 29, 2009 at 10:49 amYes, that was Danny Krivit’s custom made E&S DJR400 peice we used for the Shift! party with Ron and Danny during Inauguration weekend.
From what I can recall his was roughly the same, in fact I think Mr. V’s piece had more send/return channels.
June 29, 2009 at 1:32 pmCorrection. Fitsum, we used a Rane 2016 at the Blak Punk Soundsystem party for when Ron was down here in October 2008

That rotary mixer is the finest portable rotary in the world and holds it own to many of the classic 18″ rack versions like Urei, Bozak, etc. The crossover (the top big 3 dials) that controls the bass/mid/treble is a dream to manipulate.
They are hand-crafted to custom order and are NOT cheap.
