Saturday Night Loderunner: Displacing Nouveau Riche?

Saturday Night Loderunner: Displacing Nouveau Riche?

In all fairness, Saturday night began for me at le chez du Libby Ellsworth-Kasch for an excellent burrito partay. You will find here, pictured neither the burritos nor the partay, nor for that matter Lois, the brave. Despite said abomination (mannnn, you should have seen Marco’s white loafers!), I present to you here instead some lovely images from the night’s other-worldly activities.

First up, I attended the Loderunner show at DC9. Highlights included, when the crowd began chanting “Juno-60,” and when Libby bought me a can of Schlitz.  Energy was in abundance, and Loderunner’s electro-rock was on point. As with the last time I saw them, the audience seemed to be very entertained.

Victor gave me a ride to Nouveau Riche at the Rock n Roll Hotel, it was great, we listened to Daft Punk, which gets me ready to dance. Okay, so, I have to say, I am a huge supporter of the Riche, and thusly I can say, this was not their best effort. I’ll chalk it up to a nasty combination of scheduling your party on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, and putting it at RNR, which is generally regarded by all as, “a pain in the ass to get to.” So let’s just say, the party was a little low energy. Compared to the dengue fever DC9 dance party I’m used to, I was disappointed.

Here’s what I’ll say, and please, weigh in here, agree or disagree, Nouveau Riche belongs at DC9. I think, if you wanna start a bigger, better, meaner, louder party at RNR, start something new. I hear “Nouveau Riche,” and automatically think of people hanging off the rafters of the nasty musty ceilings of DC9. There is a possibly unconscious association with sweaty, squirming debauchery that is nary replicated anywhere else. And I’m sorry, that’s Nouveau Riche to me, and it’s at DC9.

Ironically enough, I saw quite a few of the usual Nouveau Riche crowd Saturday night. They were attending the Loderunner show, at DC9.

Notice how everyone is afraid to leave a comment, for fear of upsetting Steve Lambert or the Nouveau Riche guys.

DC9 is cute, but it’s too small for Nouveau Riche these days. Scheduling conflicts with Loderunner were definitely part of the “lack of energy” you speak of, but also, they had 400+, probably, over spread out amongst two floors. That would make the party bigger than any soiree at DC9, numbers wise, but not enough to reach critical mass, a la Blaqstarr back in March.

Either way, it was a holiday weekend, and who cares because Eli Escobar slayed it like I said he would. Dude played an amazing set of hipster jams that actually had some depth to it. Larry Levan, classic house, all blended with enough MIA and whatever else to keep the plebians happy, fuck it. Whoever didn’t make it, missed it.

Oh, and I’m sorry I missed Loderunner, dudes!! Next time I’ll be front row.

Blank Frank: I don’t comment because I don’t go. I don’t go because it sucks.

Nouveau Riche: Blaqstarr edition was good at Rock n Roll.

Otherwise, I much prefer it at dc9 and feel that is where it belongs!!

i wonder how your internet personality matches up with your real one. it would be disappointing if you were totally uninteresting and socially awkward but im afraid that would be the case…

b - michael doesn’t look like fleshed sex, i don’t really know what that looks like, nor do i want to. just know that if you go to the black cat on any given night you won’t have to ask who he is, you’ll know.
