PHOTOS: ZOMBIE RAID!!!
August 17, 2009 by Dakota
a litany of photos, from ace BYT photogs Nick Gingold, Yacouba Tanou, Shauna Alexander, Sarah Montiel and Nicolas Eubanks
…
Every once in a while the I hear about these things. Mostly through facebook, but credit DC Defenestrators, a self-described “urban prankster network.” We’ve tracked these guys before during their “No Pants” metro ride (here and here), and were thusly pleased to hear about the “Zombie Raid.” Nothing like high school drama club-esque public displays of zombie walking to satisfy our desire to gawk at real-life role play.
At the BYT office lately we’ve actually been kicking around the idea of participating in a Darkon event. It really all seems like too much fun. You have to tip your hat to people getting comfortable enough in their weirdness to act it out in public. Make-up, costumes, personas, this takes organization and time, and I have respect for that. I mean shit, we at BYT were busy throwing a Kazoo Camp (wtf?!?!) themed pool party on Saturday, otherwise I definitely would have joined in on this zombie crawl.
Anyways, there’s not much of a story here, because I mean, who cares really, a bunch of kids dressed up as zombies and acted like drama dorks pressing themselves up against shop windows in Dupont. But the images that have emerged are pretty hilarious. I sent out an email to my photocore on Friday alerting them all of this event, and of course within minutes I had five photogs clamoring to shoot the damn thing. Understandably I suppose, subject matter on Saturday was slightly more sensational than a run-of-the-mill indie rock band playing DC9 on an off-night.
From my understanding of how the event went down (me not being in attendance) the zombie raid climaxed, I shit you not, at the Real World DC house, where a few zombies (looks like) actually painted the face of one of the resident Real World douche-sacks. To his credit said douche-sack appears to be wearing a green Powershift ‘09 t-shirt which, in addition to being a coalition of thousands of college kids standing up for the environment (yay green collar jobs!), actually features a photo taken by yours truly (DF -ed) as it’s graphic. The day appears to have culminated in some sort of zombie rock show, where there was certain to have been many a flailing limb.
Looking forward to the next public act of prankery, I have to suggest an infiltration of naked zombies. I mean just take a look at the naked bike riders (NSFW and NSFW), they certainly turned heads. Problem with zombies is they shed their limbs occasionally which, ew ok, that’s enough.
first up some shots from Nick Gingold:

next up some colorful zombie magic from Yacouba Tanou:

August 17, 2009 at 11:59 amMuch respect @ Yacouba Tanou for actually coming to the show that evening too. Chainsaw Baby, Violet Says 5, & 23 Rainy Days put on a killer performance. Stay tuned for more prank raids and shows: http://Facebook.com/TyroneNorris
August 17, 2009 at 12:02 pmAwesome pictures! I actually chose to be one of the zombies, not photograph them, but I had a blast. I was the chick in the Gothic Lolita outfit.

Is that you in the third picture from the top?
@ marcalamari
If you mean the 3rd row down, in a black outfit and a black and white headband, then yes. ^_^
Woww, my father and 14-year-old sister on BYT. What has the world come to??
August 18, 2009 at 3:18 amI was the army guy, not a drama student, just a big zombie fan.
August 18, 2009 at 9:37 amZombies are everywhere; just look around you…

So I guess this is what drama nerds do on the weekends… hehe.
Double A to the Ron Smith isn’t even in Zombie gear, and he was like promoting this thing heavy. FAIL.
