In excellent news: the Washington Social Club CD-release party this Saturday was everything we'd hoped it would be. Screaming masses, lines in front before the doors even opened, a packed house, and everyone dancing. And sweating.
The Dance Party (always excellent live, and a little more excellent when at the 9:30 Club) opened, and due to some technical flash difficulties, we have no photos of their set (next time, next time).
But Joel came back with a vengeance as Marty and the Club took on the stage and proved, once again, that no one captures onstage magic quite like he can.
If you weren't there, shame on you.
If you were--you know what we're talking about.
To stream the entire album and read up on it all (some more), look no further than here.

God loves a cheerful giver.

i still wish i had bought an 'i love olivia' shirt.
Morgan - that can be arranged! Email me!
Taylor
And speaking of fashion, what did you think of Martin's outfits? Cause of all my many and varied accomplishments, picking out his wardrobe for that show might be in the top ten.
Olivia is great! I am so sad that i missed this event. If i lived anywhere in the vicinity i would have been there down in front. Go Olivia! hope to see you soon. I think the "I Love Olivia" shirts would b good too.
These photos are 100% badass
Thanks Chuck!
And the cape was....magic. SO SOCIAL!
Last time I saw them the manager was complaining about the show and threatening to pull them off after she did a pisspoor job promoting it? Did it happen at this show too?
they recentlyish got a new manager who has been doing a fantastic fantastic fantastic job of promoting them and played a huge role in getting the new album out. so. . no.
the show was unbelievable, olivia is the love of my life.
Hey Marty, I know you read all of these from your adoring fans - so just wanted to let you know there's always a small corner of my large bed for you in Barcelona. And you should really let me continue dressing you - even from afar.
the shot of olivia in the air is almost as hot as she is! only suggestion, if you want to dress (or undress) marty, think less painter more rockstar. randy looks like a cool dude! nice pix.
That blue drum set is really cool.
Thanks Grace! That is so sweet. Adam, if you don't want managers to complain, you might try a sound system that is...well, audible would be a fair start. And if we're playing a show for free, promoting is your job, not mine. Thanks, Taylor
These photos are fantastic! I can't wait for the next show.
Taylor. I had nothing to do with that show or the sound system, so dont go pointing fingers at me. It was just a casual observation that made the band look incredible bad, thats all.
Hey, Adam: Yeah, well, it clearly took it's toll on us, sadly. As you can see above. Hundreds of screaming fans and an awesome show and an even more awesome new album. Whatever shall we do? A tragedy indeed. Taylor
wow. washington social club has a really classy manager.
ha! yeah, well, all i can say is when you go into negotiations with labels, distributors, newspapers, bookers, etc you want a manager who's not afraid to smack people around. otherwise you get fucked. that's the reality of the business, and no one is better at smacking than our girl.
also, as far as this infamous show is concerned, i really think i don't have to defend WSC show rep in this town. when we started in 2001, people told us to give up because we smoked pot, talked about fucking and loved to have a good time. we were told, more than once, that we shouldn't even be in this town. we've built something here, something i'm very proud of, and something i hope DC can be proud of too. I love and support all the musicians in this town, regardless of what they think of me. that's because i know what it's like to work for something, even when people don't like what you're doing.
and let me ask a better question to get off this broing topic; why hasn't Dischord signed Mass Movement of the Moth yet? are they not the perfect Dischord band?
Martee - I dig WSC. In the past and espicially at that show. I thought even though the vocals were a bit distorted from having an imperfect PA system, you guys still sounded great and were having fun with it. My only problem that while you were having fun and the few people that were there and enjoying it were having fun, I hear out in the bachground your manager talking about pulling the plug because of the sound system. If the shows atleast fun and people enjoying it, why start up all that shit? Im glad you guys stayed on and had fun. Its just disheartening to see a band have a good time at any type of show, and then have the manager come up during the show and complain, and then after the set and complain and talk shit on the show, thats all.
As far as DC, its a weird town. Im sure the people who talked shit back in 2001 (I wasnt even around back then, my first WSC show as in 2002 or 2003, and it was awesome back then) dont even dictate the entire scene and community. DC's has many different sides and I hate how its all segregated. Why can't we all just get together and have a good time. Theres a certain time for politics, and a certain time for fun. Lately fun has been winning, which is awesome. Keep ruling.
