PHOTOS: Washington Post’s “FW” Launch Party

Today, if you are a Washington Post subscriber you will find the first issue of “FW” (or Fashion Washington) inside your paper. If you are not, you can pick it up at any number of fine stores and fancy boutiques around the city.
The magazine has already caused all sorts of (predictably) catty debate about DC fashion and what it (DC fashion) is but lets not waste any more time on that. It is great that it is here, it is great that it will be here in the future and we all look forward to seeing where it goes.
What we are here for is the party.
Morgan, Lexie and I attended said soiree this Monday, at the Bradley/Quinn family residence in Georgetown. The home setting was a nice touch and a welcome change from the whole “bar/restaurant/bar” scene.
A pretty tent was set up in the garden, there was glittery black mulch (!) on the floor and pink, flattering lights everywhere (the whole black and pink thing always scares me because it makes me scream “Hot Topic” very loudly inside my head, but it worked here) and “everyone who is anyone” in the DC fashion scene was there (Dissident Display boys-check (looking as sharp as ever), Rachel from Project Beltway-check, Jenni from Capitol Hill Barbie-check, Betsy from Fashion is Spinach-check, Shana from DC Concierge-check, Em of Goodwill Fashions-check, ladies of Cusp, Proper Topper, Patton Group-check) plus all the necessary assorted others (a dash of Caps players, a sprinkling of Georgetown socialites, Michelle Fenty, pregnant and glowing, and more photographers than you can shake a stick at).
The food was delish, the drinks were strong and tasted sweeter than juice and the dresses were expensive. Lookit:
Re: “everyone who is anyone” in the DC fashion scene was there
apart from DURKL that is…
September 17, 2008 at 9:36 amCale, there is a reason why quotation marks were used.
It was a “certain type of DC fashion people” kind of a party.
Nothing wrong with that, and a nice turn out but by no means all-encompassing.
Adrian, Ayo, Eric, Lexie, Morgan and I held the “hipster douchebag” fort down for us, so no worries.
Cale - and me.
September 17, 2008 at 9:45 am“what a bunch of coked up hipster douchebags!!!”
Yeah, no kidding. Especially those two in the last three pics… you can totally tell they’re high on something.
September 17, 2008 at 9:56 amC’mon hipster douchebags have way better hairstyles than these people.
September 17, 2008 at 9:58 amoozing with envy… look like prime people watching, yummy snacks and lots of drinks. my own private heaven.
September 17, 2008 at 9:59 amYawn.
September 17, 2008 at 10:08 amCoke is awesome and douchbags provide a very necessary hygenic service.
What’s the problem?
September 17, 2008 at 10:13 amseriously MJL …. someone should get those hookers off the street!
September 17, 2008 at 10:21 amSo envious!

September 17, 2008 at 11:25 amBYT impersonates Washington Life for an evening. Love it! When was the last time that Tara De Nicolas, “K Street Kate” and Pam Sorensen made it onto this site? And even the obligatory Erwin Gomez shot! Holy Jesus Shit!
I think it’s a testament to the small-town-strange-bedfellows vibe of DC that this never degenerated into a Jets-vs-Sharks throwdown.
Again, love it.
September 17, 2008 at 11:25 amEvery time I spot Erwin at a party I pull my bangs a little closer over my eyebrows so he cannot judge the level of non-professional chaos going on above my eyes.
September 17, 2008 at 11:34 amaw thanks Fits–a shared fave.
September 17, 2008 at 11:44 amOh you cruel, cruel woman.
September 17, 2008 at 11:47 amI got to ask celebs about their fave places to eat (Andrea Mitchell hearts Cafe Milano!) and drink delish cocktails while gushing over cute outfits. Yes please!
September 17, 2008 at 11:47 amI’m referring to miss Lex, of course. Otherwise, gorgeous work, I’m super cereal.
September 17, 2008 at 11:54 am& i didnt even know that was erwin until walking down wisconsin this morning and spotting all of the framed 4×6 snaps of him & clients that dance along his shop window front. i was all, oh thats my boy! and then that was fleeting and instead i was all, depressed about how bad my strands looked that night/always.
September 17, 2008 at 11:56 amsheer organza man shirt, italian heeled shoes, and ill-fitted shorts…erwin gomez at a family get together. he’s related to my ex. he’s also scary looking in person. i kid you not.
September 17, 2008 at 12:18 pmIs Norah O’Donnell a Georgetown socialite?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norah_O%27Donnell
Svet - right, I was just making a funny.
I wasn’t actually expecting to see Cole with his shirt off in the background of one of these pics.
September 17, 2008 at 2:24 pmthese people are gross.
September 17, 2008 at 2:30 pmfor the record-BYT continues its fashion bonanza tomorrow when we will be attending the Goodwill fashion gala at the French Embassy.
We won’t stop till we conquer. Or until I have nothing else to wear in public since all my outfits have been over-photographed.
So-look forward to more.
I heard that the chocolates is the gift bags were pretty damn tasty.
September 17, 2008 at 3:24 pmChocolates were deeeelish…. I pulled out of there w/ 2 gift bags… “hipster douchebags” UNITE…. form of skinny tie!!
September 18, 2008 at 10:43 amHell yeah, good to see the Washington Capitals hockey team up in there Clark, Green and Backstrom!
September 18, 2008 at 6:17 pmOh good - I’m glad somebody knows the name of the players of the sport on the ice. I had no clue who they were, only that they were adorable and had on great-fitting suits.
Also, the gift bags were fantastic. And they contained the smallest size XL t-shirt known to man. -the DCGF
September 19, 2008 at 11:20 amCan anyone please tell me how Michelle Fenty gets an award for most stylish? Her hair looks a mess and she is always wearing black.
