Full photoset here.
LODA’s Dave Fogel is throwing a (weekly?) party called “Producers Labels and DJs” at Muse, a new two-story club project being developed by the owners of Gallery Restaurant in Silver Spring. Construction isn’t complete yet, but the finished parts look fantastic. Write-up worthy, even. Still, “bridge-and-tunnel magnet” is written all over it, as the bills must get paid. And it’s close enough to Chinatown that the smell of fried chicken skin is not, like, all that faint. In the “plusses” column, the club’s neighborhood is practically empty at night so when thousands of people are hanging out in the club’s alley, all full of voice and smoking their entire faces off like they were doing last thursday night, they’ll suffer no noise complaints or drop-ins by MPD.
This edition’s djs were LODA vets Rusty B (downstairs) and Measax, Docindo.Dorsey (upstairs) and a friend of theirs named Navbox. The crowd was chill and very into it.

Thanks for nominating yourself, douchebag.
November 10, 2008 at 5:22 pmTake it from me. “Really really really old” is not that old.
November 10, 2008 at 5:45 pmFirst - I love how the people with BYT logins can send me email directly even though it’s supposed to be Anonymous. (Or is not published something else?) I’m glad your comments matched the email you just sent me directly….oh wait, the email was different. Classy move Fitsum. Seriously, if you didn’t care what I wrote in the comments why did you send me an email?
Second - I was going to make some specific notes on what was weak in the writing department but I didn’t have time…..but let’s go over some of it in proper douche bag - I think it’s two words mara squid person- fashion.
“LODA’s Dave Fogel is throwing a (weekly?) party”
Why didn’t you ask Dave when you took his picture?
“Still, ‘bridge-and-tunnel magnet’ is written all over it, as the bills must get paid.”
As opposed to other clubs that don’t pay their bills? And my apologies for not living in DC. Do people in DC only like hole-in-the-wall clubs or something? Did I only start to like nicer clubs/bars/lounges when I moved to VA? I must have forgot that part in the welcome packet.
“And it’s close enough to Chinatown that the smell of fried chicken skin is not, like, all that faint.”
Does the skin of fried chicken smell different from the rest of the fried chicken? Or is it only, like, kind of, fried chicken in general. Can you order only the skin of, like, a fried chicken? I’d like some fried chicken without, like, the skin please. Can I go to Popeyes and ask for an order of fried chicken skin and two biscuit flavored drinks?
“the club’s neighborhood is practically empty at night”
I can imagine being right across the street from the Verizon center. Not much to see around that place at night time.
“when thousands of people are hanging out in the club’s alley, all full of voice and smoking their entire faces off like they were doing last thursday night, they’ll suffer no noise complaints or drop-ins by MPD.”
Usually I prefer only to smoke the lower half of my face off. No drop ins from the MPD……hello what? That place - formally known as RnR Bar - always had a squad car or two nearby and some nights had cops at the door. For god’s sake there’s one parked in front of the place on Google street view.
Twas not a personal attack Fitsum. Your pics are much better then your writing even if I think the trailing lights thing is old. Can’t someone have an opinion on such things? Or are the comments only supposed to be positive and how great the BYT crew is 100% of the time?
November 10, 2008 at 6:29 pmThanks Fitsum! Big ups to the BYT crew. You guys are doing a great job :)
November 10, 2008 at 6:37 pmI thought your first comment was uselss and I wrote you so. And I wrote you so that you could say what you had to say back to me and not make this post another BYT comment war wasteland.
A couple of points about your second comment though:
– the club is at least a block away from the ass-side of the verizon center. it was a thursday night and there was no one anywhere on the block accept the people in the club’s side alley I mentioned. No cops either, which was surprising as there were ALOT of people hanging out outside.
– regarding Google Street View: IT’S. NOT. REAL. TIME. The two cop cars you saw were probably photographed in April.
– There are alot of bars and clubs in DC that I love to go to. None of them are hole-in-the-wall, but all of them pay their bills on their friday and saturday nights and those nights just happen to attract a cornier, more boneheaded breed of human than weeknights do.
So you don’t like the way I write. And maybe I aggravated you with my provincial arrogance. But I stand behind what I said about you needing to get a life and writing a more useful, constructive comment. That said, how dare you employ middle school dropout grammer like “I must have forgot that part in the welcome packet” (clue: forgotten) and “Your pics are much better then your writing” (clue: than) and call out anyone’s writing?
Anyway I’m done. Fart on, farter.
November 10, 2008 at 8:25 pmI happen to like Fitsum’s trailing-lights photographic style.
November 10, 2008 at 9:31 pmgreat pics & a very accurate description of the night, fitsum!
always a pleasure :)
November 11, 2008 at 12:05 amNo Fitsum. You sent me an email because it was more abrasive than what you placed on this page as a comment and, if I had to guess, you wanted to look like you were taking the high road. Comment #3 is yours, right? Why do both? Given the email was tagged with, “get a life” I didn’t really think you meant, “Please respond directly to me and let me know what you think about my writing”.
- Clearly, you’ve never been to this location before because most nights it was swarming with police. I’d assume that since Muse only soft opened the other night it will not take long to get back to normal.
- No shit? Google Street View isn’t real time? Christ! Where the hell have I been hiding all these years? Someplace more provincial I guess.
- “friday and saturday nights and those nights just happen to attract a cornier, more boneheaded breed of human than weeknights do.”
Yeah, excuse those of us that work during the week. I guess that means I won’t see you out taking pictures on the weekends of us corny boneheads from the provinces anymore.
- I’ll take the grammar hit on those two. I always mess up then/than and the forgot part was a last minute edit. Forgive me for those as clearly one must be perfect at something before you can critique it. By the way here’s a clue of my own: Friday and Saturday are capitalized. (Did you even write that part about the grammar or did someone else point it out to you?)
Lastly, the height of debate is when one says, “You suck!” and then announces they are leaving. Excellent job.
November 11, 2008 at 12:17 amFitsum’s pics are always hot!!!! Need more crowd shots tho ;)
November 11, 2008 at 12:19 amThe two best things about fitsums writing are:
Breakneck speed stream of consciousness face fisting language
AND
Pissing someone off every time.
I can’t imagine reading any other person’s dance party reviews.
November 11, 2008 at 11:09 am“Bridge and tunnel” does not work in DC. A bunch of kids who grew up in Jerpennohiogan do not get to drop the B&T bomb just because said kids live in DC now.
November 11, 2008 at 11:20 amFitsum!
Thanks for the write-up and pics. Just a few things to clarify. PLD is a weekly and all of us in the 88 camp are really excited about the opportunity to showcase the talent in DC that is helping put our community on the EDM Map.
Please come out and support those people that are taking the risk of pursuing music. I guarantee you’ll be pleased or disappointed in what you hear (covering all bases :). Regardless, it’s what your city’s doing so check it out.
Finally, Fitsum continues to give me a ton of credit and trust me…I appreciate it, but 88 is much bigger than myself. None of this would be possible without the dedication of folks like Graham, Albert, Max - Jeff, Mike, Jessica, Dominica, Marc, The Producers, DJs, dancers, scenesters…and everyone that continues to get out and behind what we do. Thank you so much!
November 11, 2008 at 11:41 amSpace Navigator huh? good one. Last time I checked my brother was Navid “Navbox” Zahraie.
Great party, great music, great photos (that was fun…taking photos of you while you were taking photos of me :)
November 12, 2008 at 1:38 am

Can someone write the articles and let Fitsum just take pics? Perhaps minus the trailing lights in every set that are getting really really really old?
Thanks
