Photos and words by me

On my way to the Level Up party at Red Lounge I rans into ex-Saint Ex-er Tiffany, who was hanging out about three doors down, taking a cigarette break. But from what? Where? She thumbed back at the crazy non-descript door behind her, behind which that new upmarkety secret squirrel cocktail bar The Gibson quietly ran its extended soft opening. Perfect. My Plan B. What with Fixation at Fight Club, Blisspop @ 930 and a bunch of other small events last friday night, I figured there wouldn’t be any bodies left to make Level Up more than a “meh”. Plus, that skull attacking techno mess? Please.
Anyway, Wrong and Wrong. The kleub was packed to the teets, ünd the music was toit. Toit!, I say. There were something like 350 djs on the roster that night but I only got to see the tail end of Steve Love’s set and the majority of Philip Goyette’s drop. I done missed Jackie O, and probably Sean Pierce (good lookin on those drinks, friend) and Smudge. I don’t know how much more I can say about Stove or any of his Nouveau Riche wolf pack; they rock capes. And Goyette was a bloody revelation. I need to see this youth play more often. Many of yous do too, really.
On the tangential hmmm tip, someone I know was hanging with someone he knows from New York City who’s looking to bring her naughty naughty sexytime party to our wee city very soon, and was scouting venues. And I’ll withhold any gushing over my Gibson experience until after management allows me to shoot.

the SMUDGE Says:

YO
great pics Fitsum, you are a man among boyz.
this was a KILLER event. All the elements came together for one of those rare perfect moments in the party world of DC.
I love it when the bartenders are all obviously shook by the amount of heads–they were like deer in the headlights.
Cant wait for next month–
