This past week, the strip of stores known as “The Block” (home to Commonwealth, Stussy and The Greater Good) was the place to be. Well, at least for me and a hundred or so people, it was.
On Tuesday, Commonwealth had a listening party for Jabari Johnson’s forthcoming compilation album Famous On The Internet. Jabari, who is probably best known as a Hip Hop media correspondent for HipHopGame.com, debuted the single “Dopeman” which featured guest appearances by Nikki Minaj and the Clipse’s Pusha T. The whole event was also broadcast live on the Hip Hop blog NahRight.com.

Later in the week, (on Thursday), Stussy held an event for record label Stones Throw artists Peanut Butter Wolf, Mayer Hawthorne, Dâm Funk and James Pants who stopped by before their concert at 9:30 Club. It was also the release night for the Stones Throw vs. Stussy t-shirt created to commemorate the concert tour. James Pants and Dâm Funk both played sets for the good sized crowd that showed up to enjoy a night of music and free Red Stripe.
