Brightest Young Things

This past weekend FRODUS reunited after forever (or, well, 10 years, or after that Murky Upstairs pre-SXSW show you may or may not count as a proper fully-fledged show). EVERYONE WAS REALLY EXCITED. Josh took photos and wrote some words:

Frodus, for those of you who don't know, were/are a DC area "post-hardcore" band who were around in the mid-to-late 90s, and broke up in 99 or so. Their last album came out in 2001, well after they had broken up. I didn't live here then, and never saw them live, but my good friend Evan (who I co hosted our College Radio punk and hardcore show, Combat Rock, with) really liked them, and though I didn't "get it" at first, they grew on me over the years.

Apparently they grew on a lot of people, because when they got back together a month or so ago (Original singer/guitarist Shelby Cinca and drummer Jason Hamaker with Liam from Dillinger Escape Plan on bass) to play the Lovitt Records showcase at SXSW... the response was phenomenal. I was at that show, and the (very large) crowd was off the hook... and seemingly comprised 50% of people who have gone on to be in really interesting and influential bands.

With that sort of welcome back (and a string of other shows in or around SXSW/Murky Coffee), they have decided to make a go of it and are doing other dates and even working on new material!

I caught them at the Talking Head Club in Baltimore, with Sick Weapons (an awesome up and coming Baltimore band with members of a lot of other Baltimore bands past and present), and the show ruled. One of the best things about Frodus live is that they combine humor, politics, technical proficiency and furious playing effortlessly... I recommend checking them out, assuming this reunited line-up continues on.

The Frodus Cover of Explosions (devo) is EXACTLY how every band should do a cover. Sorry morgs, but this shit is way more epic than Dragonforce.

Look it up.
