Last friday was Kristen’s last night in DC before moving on to San Fransisco for the summer. Lucas Brown, aka DJ Smudge, was in the process of turning 30. Both mitigated against their pain at Café Japone at Smudge’s “Over The Top” party with Nouveau Riche’s Steve Love and Trans Atlantic’s DJ People’s Champion on spins. Japone’s main bar area is really small and awkwardly shaped; perfect if you dig submarines or prison. And more than once, I saw not-quite-finished drinks get snatched out right out of customers’ hands by overzealous staff (something I doubt ever happens on submarines). I still enjoyed myself, got my chat on, etc … Most of the crowd would move on to Jimmy Valentine’s all the way over there in Maryland (nevermind. that’s just the name of the street) where Jesse Bishop was no doubt aggressively birthdaying. Me, I got an encouraging text from Will Eastman’s and was headed north to Napoleon.

On arrival, I found one Elizabeth Palumbo also celebrating her birthday tonight and farming giant bruises from two nights earlier. I also found one prodigal bartendress and a dance party that kept it going through closing.

The complete photoset is here

Kristen is one cool woman.
Gonna miss her beautiful face big time.
Kinda hope she hates SF and moves back in the fall, but …
Jesse doesn’t have an I in it unless it’s the feminine form.
