Mt. Pleasant Fire Victims Benefit @ La Casa

Mt. Pleasant Fire Victims Benefit @ La Casa

May 4, 2008 by Dakota Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Okay, so this is the night that was Wednesday night at La Casa in Mt. Pleasant. In case you’re wondering what the hell La Casa is, I think, by day it’s a community church, hence the banner on the wall that says “Rejoice.” Regardless, there were like seven bands, too many for me to mention here (I’m just the photographer)… but, needless to say, the entertainment was varied. U.S. Royalty, notably however, brings the steam to water. Even with a partial sound system, they sound rawk.

On top of all the proceeds of this event going to benefit the neediest victims of the Mt. Pleasant fire, this wasn’t just feel good because we were doing good, kids showed up in droves and made it live.

Chris DeWitt says:

Friends and neighbors:

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the benefit show at La Casa last night. It was a lovely display of community. Life affirming, even. Also, we made $1,354 (!) for those displaced by the Mt. Pleasant apartment fire, all of which will be divided on an as-needed basis by Neighbors Consejo over on 16th st. Way to go, guys.

Let’s do it again sometime soon. Happy summer.

Also, and I just have to mention, this event is a testament to the awesomeness that is Ryan Wakeman. Seriously, this dude throws down, and everyone around me says “throw down!” Hardcore. Call it the Wakeman Effect. Heard it here first.

Will someone step up and do a real review in comments? Dakota, if you’re just the photographer then post your pictures and save your energy… This night was borderline epic, with a lot of great performances, all very much worth mentioning.

@yikes, who’s obviously too retarded to take their own advice? or suddenly realized the irony of it all and shuffled back into lurkdom:
you were there.
you obviously felt the “borderline epic”-ness all.
well … step up.

I’m bummed I left after WILD FICTIONS, but in my defense, I was pretty crapped out on Mad Dog 20/20.

God, I love BYOB events.
